Welcome to Painting a Dog a Day

Since October 2006 I've been a daily painter, creating a new pet portrait at least 5 times per week. At first the paintings were mostly dogs, but over the years I've allowed a transgression here and there, and expanded my offerings to include a variety of animals and pets. And yes, I accept commissions! Please join the Painting a Dog a Day community - Sign up using the links at the left to receive the dailies via email or follow the blog with a feed. I post additional info, including in-process jpgs and other related information, on the studio Facebook page as well.

The links above will help navigate through workshops, the commission process, and other options.

Thank you
so much for your continued support of my artwork.

Sketching

Just a couple of the sketches I've been working on this week. I accept a limited number of commissioned sketch projects each month (these start at $99) - inquiries may come to me.

I took a break from the large horse racing painting to do some deskwork today. It's alarming how quickly those sorts of tasks pile up when I am distracted by the easel.

I fielded a number of new inquiries, did some work on my website, started paperwork for taxes, worked on gallery correspondance, and squeezed in sketches and the blocking in of double portrait.

And it's Friday already - how did that happen?
Enjoy your weekend!!
Kim

Draw!

I am asked all the time what sort of advice I have for artists who want to improve. And it's pretty basic advice.

Draw.

Draw everything you can.

Carry a sketchbook with you, set aside 10 minutes a day just to sketch.

Sketch with different materials, on different surfaces. Experiment with different types of line and color. Play with texture and pattern in your drawings. Make them whimsical. Make them serious.

But just draw.

Because there isn't enough paint in this world to camoflage a poor drawing.
