Paintings With Soul

Since October 2006 I've been a daily painter, creating a new pet portrait at least 5 times per week. Over the years I've expanded my offerings to include a variety of animals, pets, race horses, children and other treasured heirlooms. In addition, I accept a limited number of commissions each year.

In 2015 I am honored to be the Kentucky Derby Artist.

You may use the links below right to receive my daily paintings via email or to follow my blog with a feed. I post additional info, including in-process jpgs and other related information, on the studio Facebook page as well.

Meanwhile, thanks
so much for your continued support of my artwork.

Calla, in process

IN PROCESS, full image above, detail below: "Calla," 24" x 48", acrylics, charcoal and ink on museum quality cradeled panel (painting wraps around the sides, so there is no need to frame), featuring a white horse crowned with a bouquet of flowers. When finished, this painting will be $1499, complete with complimentary shipping inside the US (I also ship worldwide) - inquiries may always come to me.

This one is a self-portrait of sorts. As a horse crazy child, I galloped everywhere, and imagined a silky tail streaming behind. The flowers carry symbolic meaning or have special context to me.

Next I'm trotting into the kitchen and get dinner going.

Kim

Hobbes

"Hobbes," 18" x 24" x 1-1/2", acrylics, charcoal and ink on museum quality cradeled panel (painting wraps around the sides, so there is no need to frame), featuring an enormously tender and orange tabby kitten, crowned with daisies and baby's breath. Hobbes is allergen free, won't scratch your furniture or leave hairballs inside your favorite shoes, and he guaranteed to make you smile - $1499 will get him to your door (inside the US, but yes, I do ship worldwide) - inquiries may always come to me.

The world gets darker by the day. I believe some of my best floral paintings are coming from a desire to create beauty and paint hope. Hobbes is one of these pieces.

We can't let the darkness win.

Prairie Frida, Finished

In Process: "Prairie Frida," 12" x 48", acrylics on panel, featuring a prairie dog sporting a floral crown, a la Frida Kahlo (she's a hero of mine).  Scroll down for more detail. This piece is $1599, and although it is still in process, you can pre-purchase with a deposit. Price includes complimentary shipping inside the US. Inquiries may come to me.

I've been working on her for about a week, getting things all drippy and luscious, then setting her aside to dry while I picked up another piece. I am in love with Frida, both the prairie dog and the painter. She is going to make someone's home pretty crazy fun - although I imagine she's much tamer than the artist Frida ever was!!

Camargue Peace

"Camargue Peace," 24" x 20", acrylics on panel, featuring a wild horse with a crown of blooms. This piece is $699, price includes complimentary shipping inside the US, and it will arrive wrapped in prayer. Inquiries may come to me.

SOLD (thank you so much!)

I try to steer clear of politics and world events on my blog, but I can't anymore. It seems like every day our world becomes more divided, and humanity showers itself with additional pain. I had to pour myself into a painting done in response to the horrific tragedy in Nice, and spent 9 hours painting alla prima (wet on wet, none stop) today.

I've broken tradition and made prints available prior to the sale of the original, because I am hoping that adding this piece in whatever form to your personal collection will bring joy and peace to your life. We could all use some more of that, no?

The Camargue Horse is one of the oldest breeds in the world, and it hails from Southern France. The flowers were chosen for their specific meanings.

Alyssum as a reminder of our intrinsic worth
Camellia to represent that our destiny is in each others' hands
Pansy as a reminder to think with compassion of each other
Periwinkle for tender recollections
Rosemary for remembrance
Verbena for prayer
Yarrow as a cure for broken hearts

Tangle

"Tangle," 24" x 20", acrylics on panel, featuring a caramel colored baby bunny (anyone know what this color is called?), sprouting a tangle of what I believe to be Lady's Thumb. I tucked some clover in for good measure, too.
Another painting carryling looser detail than what I've typically been doing, with a the price that reflects this. $699 will get Tangle delivered to your door (inside the US). Inquiries may come to me.

Sweet Pea

"Sweet Pea," 16" x 20", acrylics on panel, featuring a teeny tiny baby bunny (lionhead? angora?) with the sweetest little white nose, nestled in a mass of sweet peas. This piece has less detail than the others I've been doing, and I rather like the sketchiness of it - consequently, the price reflects this as well. $599 will get Sweet Pea delivered to your door (inside the US). Inquiries may come to me.

SOLD (thank you so much!)

I've been working on this one since Sunday, picking her up when the larger pieces need some time to dry. Overall, I've got about a dozen different works in various stages in the studio right now.
It's a wild menagerie!

(Uni)corn Flower III

Lots of changes to this one over the last few days. I think she's all the better for them - and ready to head to a new home. Let me know if that's yours!

(Uni)corn Flower II

"(uni)corn Flower II," 24" x 30", acrylics on panel, featuring a pink unicorn, complete with blaze and a tangled crown of corn flowers. She's got a home already, but do let me know if you want to see more of these, or even want one for yourself.

Or, order reproductions on a variety of items here.

Notice that she's number 2? There's a (uni)corn Flower I in my studio now, 36" x 48". You can see him in process here.

And (uni)corn Flower III will be started momentarily.

Squirreley

FINISHED!! "Squirreley," roughly 20" square, acrylics on panel, featuring a curious and fearless squirrel, larger than life, literally and figuratively. And I promise she won't eat your insulation or chew through the cable line - she's very well behaved.

Squirreley needs a loving home - if you think it's yours, let me know (I'm happy to set up payment plans). She is $999 which includes complimentary shipping and handling inside the US. Inquiries may always come to me.

I might have been spotted in my pajamas this morning on the side of the road, cutting wildflowers before the rain came in. The things we do for art, right? At least I brushed my teeth first!

Beryl

(previous working title "Mable") "Beryl," 30" x 30" x 1-1/2" museum quality cradled panel, starring a gentle cow and her wreath of blackberries. The image is entirely painted/wrapped around the edges, so there is no need to frame - she is ready to hang! And what a focal point she will be in your room, too!

Beryl is available for purchase (I accept credit cards and can structure a payment plan - just ask!) - she's $3299 which includes complimentary shipping and handling inside the US. Inquiries may always come to me.

I started this one last month and have been picking away at her slowly, waiting for my blackberries to come in so that I could paint those from life. Which they have, and I did, and now she's done!!

Wishing you all a glorious holiday weekend (clearly, I was so eager to start mine that I neglected to post this prior!! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!!),
Kim

Cheeky is available for purchase (I accept credit cards and can structure a payment plan - just ask!) - he's $599 which includes complimentary shipping and handling inside the US. Inquiries may always come to me.

SOLD (thank you very much!)

Our vacation/dance nationals was fabulous! We packed so much into our trip around my daughter's performance schedule and made lots of fabulous memories. On top of that, her team danced incredibly well, bringing home national titles, scholarships, special recognitions and numerous awards.

And I brought home a mess of ideas for new work. I have never left the studio for 12 whole days before. It was terrifying and yet oddly inspiring too. I'm thrilled to be back, and especially happy to have gotten so much quality time with my family too.
