Dawn and Dusk

Tempest

I loved the start - beautiful line work and sworls of energy in a predominantly light filled space - but couldn’t really see or feel where she was going from there. So she sat at the back of my studio and waited patiently. And then, while on vacation, I was standing in all these ancient Italian basilicas looking up at the frescos and mosaics of saints ascending through skies and it hit me. This Bear is sacred, like every animal I paint she represents the holiness in our world. And Bears in particular to me represent Mothers, Protectors, Nurturers. Therefore she needed similar treatment...

Some paintings show up and are completed inside the blink of an eye. Others take a bit longer. I try not to stress about it - various things happen that can impact a pieces’ momentum. As long as I am continually showing up in the studio and doing my part to be receptive to my muse and artistic growth, it is what it is. And yup, the title is inspired by van Gogh. His struggle to create is no secret, and I thought a little nod to this lady’s journey was appropriate. I think she was worth the wait, though, don’t you? Get a close up look at Starry Night...
