A review of The Talisman Paintings

The painting I feel started this series of work off back in March 2020, this is "Totem." If you click on the image, you'll get redirected to a video short outlining the paintings that have come about since she showed up on my easel.

So I like to review my body of work periodically. It's a great learning tool. It gives me a chance to revisit the paintings with hindsight and the benefit of new knowledge. I also get to see them collectively as opposed to the individual focus that happens as I'm painting them.

A couple weeks ago I made this video outlining the progression of The Talisman paintings. I don't know how many works are technically part of the series, but there is a significant number, and not all of them are in this video. It's important to also clarify that this isn't a promotional video for my art - it's a tool to help me analyze what I did ok on and the areas where I could have done better (or at least differently). It will also help me see trends and choose a path for future work.

I will be hosting this review/critique session in a zoom call with my online students on Saturday, September 25th. If you are interested in joining us, please sign up for the Real Time tier on my Patreon. This will get you immediate access to my online classroom space where there is a year's worth of content like in process painting videos, bits about inspiration and technique, links to articles and videos that kicked off ah-ha moments for me, in depth discussions on concepts critical to the art making process and other lessons. I would love to see you join us in the next session, as I review and critically discuss the body of work I've made the last 18 months and talk candidly about where my paintings may be headed.

Thanks, as always, for following along on my painting journey,

Be well,
Fondly, Kim
