"Dove 3," 11" x 14", acrylics and pencil on stonehenge paper, small white margin on edges (not pictured), $399 plus s&h to the first asking nicely. Inquiries may always cometo me.

In between working on commissions, I am continuing my own learning via mentoring sessions withAnne Siems. I'm also takingan online workshop with Stanka Kordic. This piece was a eureka sort of painting in that it begins to meld what I am trying to learn from both these extraordinary women.

Someone asked me recently why I study with other artists. It's because I'm never fully satisfied with what I know how to do. There's always people better than me at something or another, and I want to try to peek inside their brain to figure out how they weave their magic. Then I can adapt that to my own goals and style. It would be boring to paint the same way, every day, for eternity. I want to evolve and grow. Always.

(and if you feel the same way, maybe you want tovirtually join me in…

ZOOM Journaling - new class - ROOTED

A couple weeks ago I taughtmy first zoom workshop, mono printing in our journals, and it was a wonderful experience. Zoom allows me to demonstrate my process, simultaneously share my journal and my palette, and interact with participants in real time. Additionally, the class video becomes available afterwards for direct download for any students wishing to try the lesson on their own time after the fact.

If you haven't yet tried journaling, what's holding you back? There's no need for previous arting experience (I promise you that - as complex as my pages may look, they are simple exercises that can be completed by anyone), no specialized art materials or equipment. And no expectation that what you make will hang on a wall or even ever have to be shared. All you need is the desire to make some marks and play with the tools. So please consider joining us - either in a zoom session, or one of the free#journalthroughit classes.

If you are an avid journaler, you will be excited …

"Grace," 18" x 24" x 1-1/2", acrylics on cradeled panel, commissioned portrait of a wonderfully sweet chocolate lab.

Grace was perfectly behaved while here in the studio. Isn't she just the absolute best? Pearls and a Tiffany blue ground for a princess of a pup. This painting has been in the works for the past 5 months. The studio seems a little gloomier without her sweet little face to brighten things up.

And while I hate to say it, it's not too early to be planning for holiday gift giving. I'm booked well into September at the moment.. I am happy to discuss a portrait of your beloved family member - prices start at $499 for an original painting of museum quality.Reach out nowand we can lock your project in before the year's end.

Thanks, as always, for following along on my art journey!

#journalthroughit Puppy Therapy

There's a new Santini in town - meet Bean! The Princess brought home a cattle dog-corgi mix puppy over the weekend, and it didn't take long for this little girl to make it onto my easel. Well, actually, into my journal that is.

This week's#journalthroughit lessonwill be one giant dose of puppy therapy. Which, I think given the uncertainty and unrest in the world right now, we all could use. We'll create a mixed media page inspired by Bean - or your own special furry family member. Pull upthe studio's Facebook pageat 11:30am eastern this Thursday (July 23) for the live lesson, ortune inat your convenience afterwards. As always, #journalthroughit classes are free, and the programming isfunded by your donations.

And if you want even more time working in your journal, join me again at 6pm that same day fora journal lesson delivered via Zoomon monoprinting. I decided to offer my monthly in-person journaling class online, which means that you can art with me even if there&…

"Lola," 8" x 10", commissioned pet portrait, acrylics on cradeled panel, private collection. This painting is slated to be gifted soon - I have permission to share her, BUT, if you happen to know a Lola who looks exactly like this, you are now in on the secret.

Want a portrait for your own self? I'm currently selecting projects for fall delivery. Inquiries can always come straightto me.

Thanks, as always, for following along on my art journey!

Still painting hope, but there's a tinge of heartache in this one too.

Tomorrow's#journalthroughit lesson(live streamed on my Facebook page) will be about taking a line for a walk. Tune in at 11:30 am eastern to learn how to create lines with personality and character. I've also got a special evening journaling session via Zoom scheduled for next week - all the details arehere.

Thanks, as always, for following along on my art journey!

NEW PAINTING Possibility

"Possibility," 18" x 24", acrylics and mixed media on panel, $799 plus s&h to the first asking nicely. I accept paypal, venmo, personal checks and payment plans. Inquiries can always come straightto me.

A quiet painting, one to make you pause. I've been thinking a lot about fall's return to school, and what that could mean to this generation of children. And to The Man Child (my oldest son, for those of you new to my mailing list), who is an educator. And to all my friends and loved ones who also work in the schools. It's a complex situation without precedent. It weighs heavy on my heart, and I know I am not alone.

But this painting holds out hope. So I'm going to run with that. Hope that those in charge of determining what the classrooms will look will like do their best in creating a safe model for education system.

Thanks, as always, for following along on my art journey!

Did you participate in this weekend's Create Retreat? there was SO MUCH content crammed into 48 hours - really, about 2 hours per lesson, if you pulled an all-nighter. It was hard to fit it all in.

My favorite part was that for 2 days we celebrated being creative and making art. There was so much support, enthusiasm and delight getting passed about the classroom. It was breathtaking.

Do you wish you had more time to discover and play? Did you not get to all the lessons you had wished? well, there's a solution for that..... other than crying over your journal.

Come join the yearlong Make Create Express 2020 workshop

You will receive a Lesson every week - and there is no expiration on said lesson, so you can take all the time you wish to dive deeper, linger, and experiment. You will also be a piece of the above mentioned community, a group of creatives eager to try new things and share inspiration.

That's over 52 lessons, an entire year of prompts and sparks and amid a creative…

This weekend (which includes my butterfly lesson along with 25 other classes from international artists) kicks off Make Create Express 2020, a year's worth of weekly lessons delivered to your email box. More details, including how to sign up for the free weekend's worth of instruction, arehere.Studio News from June 2020I feel like I wrote May's newsletter last week. How is it that June has gone by already?

While we are still a household mostly in quarantine, we have gotten out a little the past few weeks. Always social distancing and with masks as needed, but we went rock hounding (I found so many beautiful treasures, and the sound of the water was so restorative), kayaking, and took some wonderful long hikes with the dogs. We also tore the back sunporch off our 100 year old home and rebuilt it ourselves, an unplanne…

"Blue," roughly 8" x 10", acrylics on a shield shaped wooden panel (yes, the painting is this shape and roughly 3/4" high), my personal collection. I'm not letting this one go anywhere! Message meif you would like information on commissioning your own pet's portrait, or maybe you want something like this, in a special shape. Portraits start at $400.

Trekell Art Supplieshas a pet portrait contest where submissions must be painted on their panels. I hadn't worked with Trekell previously, although I have been intrigued by their panels' delightful shapes for quite some time. I bought a couple extras when I ordered this, along with a larger fancy medallion one and a shrine shaped piece, just to have fun with. I don't know what I will put on them yet, but they are sitting here, waiting patiently for inspiration to hit.

Meanwhile, I hope to finish 2 other commissions tomorrow. I know it's technically a holiday here in the states, but I'm jus…

Meet MAKE CREATE EXPRESS 2020 Class Tuition Winner Amanda

Last week I was able to gift a scholarship to one lucky creator for this year's Make Create Express year long class. The winner was drawn at random, and I was so thrilled to get to reacho out and offer that space to Amanda Krause.

Amanda is a mixed media artist who explores materials and techniques as she observes birds. She is looking to build a routine that supports regular creation and provides incentive to explore new subjects. She hopes to learn new skills and techniques as she arts her way through the months. What a perfect match for this experience - I am certain that she will have a marvelous time!

You can see more of Amanda's work onFacebookandInstagram.

Thank youGalia and Art is Magicfor giving me the change to give away a seat in this class. And thank you Amanda for being a part of my creative circle and helping spread word about the experience.

If you've not yet signed up for the lead-in event, which is free, please do.The Creative Retreat Weekend is July 11-12th.…

Took a break from pet portraits and homework. Yes, I am always a student, learning and trying new things - right now I'm working one on one withAnne Siems and she is turning my brain inside out in the best sort of way. But today after some work onthe puppy with pearlsand a couple Anne studies, I needed to do a painting that was a little less serious.

And what do you know? my heart is lighter.

It could have also been the dance music I had blasting.

Tomorrow's #journalthroughit lesson will be light hearted too. I'm going to channel Dr. Seuss and make a joyful and imaginative page. Come join me at 11:30am eastern time onmy studio facebook page.

Thanks for following along with my painting journey, Kim

Today's #journalthroughit lesson is a direct response to today's world. I'll provide a simple step by step approach to fingerpainting a diverse range of figures, figures which will gather into a gentle crowd on our journal page.

My demos for the two online classes available throughMake Create Express 2020- one will be part of the freeCreative Retreat Weekend, the other is included in theyear long instruction. More details arehereand below.Studio News from May 2020May was just one big long day, wasn't it? It's always hard for me to keep track of the days, since My Better Half doesn't work a traditional work week and there were no longer school aged kids at home. But now it seems even worse. There isn't anything to mark the passage of time, not even my weekly trip to the grocery (In March I was banned from doing pretty much anything out in the world).

I've been filling my days with studio work and hanging with the kids. Long walks with the dogs, now that the weather has turned, and a bit of yard work too. Home cooked dinners on the patio and bonfires in the back yard. A lively game of croquet occasionally, with the added challenge of Sal, who relocates the balls mid-play. Late nites up reading…

NEW PAINTINGS Rosa Multiflora 1 and Rosa Multiflora 2

At left, "Rosa Multiflora 1," at right, "Rosa Multiflora 2," each 6" x 6" x nearly 1", acrylics on cradled wood panel, image painted around edges, $174 each plus s&h. $100 from the purchase of each painting will be donated to #BlackLivesMatter. I accept paypal, venmo, personal checks and payment plans. Inquiries may always cometo me.

I have been at a loss this last week, struggling to comprehend the divide that's growing in my country, and what I see Americans doing to each other. I created #journalthroughit lessons directed specifically tomindfulnessandcreating space to usher in and express our emotions. I'm also planning to attend a peaceful BLM rally, but keeping an eye on threats of armed gunman attending in opposition. And, of course, listening and learning. It just doesn't feel like enough, though.

Last night, on a rare late evening alone in the studio, I set my commission aside, as my heart wasn't in it. I needed to paint som…

"Paul Anka," 8"x10"x1", acrylics on cradled wood panel, private collection (thank you very much!!). Inquiries can always cometo me.

It's been 19 years since I hung out my shingle and officially began a new career as a pet portrait artist. With 3 children aged 6 and under, I started painting at the dining room table while they napped, moving into my own studio two years later. My daily painting commitment,, started 4 years afterwards. There have been well over 1000 faces gracing my easel in this time, and I fall in love with each and every one of them.

Here's an added bonus for you - I started Paul Anka's portraitvia a live feed on Facebook. You canwatch iton the studio Facebook page, or if you are boycotting social media like so many others, it is currently uploading toYouTube (and taking forever, I might add, so message meand I'll send you a head's up when it's ready!).

It would be remiss not to mention the unrest …
