Not me! This doesn’t mean the birds are done in the least - just that the bears were ready for their closeup, so to speak.  Maybe there will be a bear and bird combo in one of these new pieces. I truly never know where the painting process is going to take me - that’s one of the things I love the most about intuitive work. However, bear and bird were a great combo in this early Talisman painting,  Bare Branches , so why not have another try at it? I’ll be open mind...

A few weeks back I thought about doing an eclipse themed painting, but nothing else came to me other than a literal addition of an eclipsed landscape. That didn't feel genuine enough, and sure, I could have chased that idea and seen what evolved from it, but I've learned to let painting seeds mature. It's challenging, to be sure, but ultimately it serves the idea in the most authentic way possible.   Last month I snuck off to Kara Bullock's art studio in California and secretly filmed   an online workshop !! This project has literally been in the works for years (she was so kind and patient when i needed to reschedule in 2023). I consciously continue to reach for it though, not because I am a glutton for punishment, but because I believe that it is one of the most critical components of a balanced life. Along the way I incorporated elements of the changing season (and moon) in her design. She's a compilation of the shifts that have happened in my little neck of the woods. I am intrigued by this combination, a painting made up of multiple moments in time - you can bet it's been added to my "what if's" for future exploration! I started this painting on June 24, 2022 after hearing that the United States Supreme Court had overturned Roe v Wade. It was a day of very big feels, no matter which side one was on. I took my emotions to the easel ,as I always do, and started a momma bear soaked in tears. Over the next 9 months I would return to her, adding layers of marks when I felt my own emotional well being slip and slide. On a personal note she's carried me through the marriage of my oldest, our first post pandemic holiday celebration with the entirety of family, children moving out, children returning home, two reunions with my high school BFF and the mass shooting at Michigan State University.
