Ice III - done - and a Casting Call

ABOVE, detail of "Ice (Luna III)," BELOW, full version, 12" x 7-3/4", acrylics on a cradeled museum quality panel, the newest installation in The Luna Series, a study of black and white, $499. In process photos here . I don't think this painting is going to last long -  inquiries may come to me . I want to do a few more paintings of Luna, but am far from done with my exploration of black and white. Which means I am casting for additional black and white muses. The ideal muse will have interesting markings and texture along with an expressive face. Nominations may come to me via email  with the subject line "Black and White" - include 2-3 non-flash photos that you have taken where your black and white nominee makes up at least 1/3 of the photo.  PLEASE NOTE: Nominating individuals are under no obligation to purchase resulting artwork. By submitting photos, nominating individual is guaranteeing they are both the photog...

Frog Dog

"Frog Dog," 10" x 16", acrylic on museum quality panel, depicting a very flexible chocolate lab named Ace. This painting is hopefully heading to a juried exhibition in early 2014, but inquiries may always come  to moi . In process pics of Ace are  here  and yes, I do accept a limited number of commissions -  email me . A friend shared Ace's photo on Instagram and I called her up, begging to paint him. Thankfully she gave me permission - I would have been haunted by this composition otherwise! In other news, the studio got a much needed cleaning and reorganizing over the weekend, which means I purged some of my art books and put them up for sale on Facebook. There are a few still available  here . And in still more news, I had the distinct pleasure of meeting one of my idols and long time inspirations, cellist  Zoe Keating , over the weekend. If you don't know  her music , you no longer have an excuse, and if she's...

Jack

Jack, 6" x 8", depicting a wild rabbit, painted in acrylics on museum quality panel, $329 to the first one saying "please!" Pleases may come  to me  - along with inquiries about commissioning your own special portrait. But make it quick, becaue I am really tempted to keep this one for myself!!     My challenge today was to paint the light more so than the object. To make the light tangible and real and the primary focus of the painting.   It was much harder than it looks. Much, much harder.   In process pics on  the studio Facebook page .   Thanks so much for following along with my work, Kim ksantini@turtledovedesigns.com   PS  Thank you to my friend Lisa from  Team Husar Photography  for sharing bunny photos and granting me permission to paint from them!
