Ziggy has recently found his forever home, and his portrait will join that of his siblings Milo and Emma , who I painted a few years back. Ziggy's family fosters for a group that's new to my radar, Mill Dog Rescue . They've recently saved dog #4001 - can you imagine?! I am starting to understand my Golden Open Acrylics a bit more, and with that comes an increased comfort zone in brushwork and color. I ended up swapping out the open Titanium White for my Heavy Body white which seems more opaque - perhaps that led to the density or darker colors I achieved in these two portraits (last week was very pastel, which isn't altogether a bad thing, but different than how I normally paint). “Monty,” 4x6, mixed breed commissioned pet portrait in acrylic on canvasboard, private collection (THANK YOU!). ARTIST'S NOTE: I stand corrected. Monty is not a mixed breed, but a Havanese. Shame on me for not clarifying that prior to posting!! My sincerest apologies go out to Monty!! This painting grew out of the same palette choices as yesterday. Even after just one day, I am more comfortable mixing the tones and values, and am continuing to learn how these new shades of red (cadmium red light) and yellow (cadmium yellow light) can work for me. It’s especially tough when painting dogs that have very little pigment or color to their fur, finding the proper combination of values and tints that properly convey depth and light without being too heavy. I think these two might be just the trick!
