Paintings With Soul

"Calvin, Sketch," image approximately 6" x 6" on a 9" x 12" bristol board, acrylics, featuring a sassy Weimereiner pup, private collection (THANK YOU!). In September I pledged painted sketches to fans making a $75 contribution to an ALS walk in honor of a family friend. Calvin's is the first of these portraits. I took extra special pleasure in painting him, layering marks and color and detail in appreciation of his Mom's support of a cause close to our hearts.       "Henry," 6" square, acrylics on museum quality panel, a commissioned portrait of, well, of Henry. Private collection (THANK YOU!).   Henry's in process  here  on the studio's Facebook page.   Inquiries are always welcomed - yes, I can do something similar for you - shoot an email  in my direction .     Henry's Grandma has two favorite animal painters and couldn't choose who she wanted to paint his likeness, so she extended an invitation to the both of us.   I was pleased to hear that  Karen Mathison Schmidt  was the other artist. I'm an admirer of her work, and this gave me an excuse to introduce myseld and ask to be her friend.   She said yes, BTW.   And, she'll be sharing her version of Henry later today  on her blog , too.   I can't wait to see what she did with his cute little face, Kim  

    "Trouble xs 8," 7" x 16", is the final painting heading to ArtPrize. This piece is done in acrylics on panel, and will be available for purchase once the exhibition opens September 19th. Inquiries may come  to me .   This is a rework of an earlier painting,  "Great Expectations."  While I loved the piece at the time I finished it, there were passages that just didn't quite work for me. So I set the piece aside to try and tackle later.   Here's  a detail of the newly finished piece  - it now boasts a more harmonious background, plenty of daubed color and gestural marks, and big ole paws and floppy ears.   Hoping everyone has a fantastic weekend!
