Did you know that rabbits have been around for 4000 years? that they originated in Iberia, and the country name "Spain" actually is a shortened version of the original Phoenician name which translated to "land of the rabbits"? in 200BC ancient Romans built rabbit ranches with some difficulty, because the rabbits kept digging out of the enclosures. It's rarely difficult for me to title my paintings, particularly when I'm working with in a series. I think I'm at least 10 pieces (2 months) into the rabbits, and I'm still not entirely sure what these paintings are about. So I asked my Oracle Cards the other night what the rabbits meant. I pulled The Ancient Ones card, representing shamans of old who defeated death and escaped time. The Ancient Ones counsel and invite us to reach to the future and birth a new destiny. How's that for some mid-pandemic direction? Rather fitting, isn't it? I didn't have much of a painting mojo this aft...

It's been a busy last couple of weeks outside the studio, between exhibition openings, guild meetings, artwork delivery and pickup, and critique sessions. I have not been able to get to the easel as much as I would like, but this sort of activity fuels and motivates. There is inspiration that happens when one gets to view artwork in person and talk to other creators. And, of course, I love getting my work out into the world, too, always. I am so very thrilled and thankful to share that the above painting, Incarnate, was honored with a second place award at   Starkweather Arts' Center's   Membership Show, juried by Peter Gahan. So over the last two years this particular canvas has had several iterations - one being layers of punk tulle, then there were some parrot tulips, and those, over the course of the last week, became primroses. That's the thing about painting intuitively - one is never fully in control of the outcome, merely channeling the ideas. When she could no longer care for herself, she moved into the basement of my grandmother's home. One of my favorite parts of visiting my grandmother was the added 2-for-1 part - I got double the love within each visit. Every day I write a list of 10 things I want to remember in my journal. Usually they are things encountered inside the last 24 hours. But today I am making an exception. Some of my favorite memories of Maimie: 1. She always had a canary. When her last one died, she was gifted a music box - a bamboo bird cage with a tiny bird on a swing. How I loved getting permission to turn the birdsong on. 2. We had a standing date with ...

The purchase information remains the same. Clover has always been a magical plant for me, particularly the purple ones, which seem to dip and dance and carry on a conversation in the garden. I spent hours as a kid, on my belly, searching for the 4 leaf-ers. As a matter of fact, it remains one of my favorite past times to this day. Grandma Kelly could always find them so easily. It's fragile, just like that dissolving dream upon wakening.  But these tendrils reach and tangle and persevere with a lovely gentleness, and hint deliciously at what was dancing through our mind just a moment earlier......
