Paintings With Soul

I spent the last 2 days prepping for my workshop in Ann Arbor tomorrow. This one is a 2 day intensive, where I try to boil down and condense all the goodies I throw at students in a typical 4 day workshop (and THOSE are fast paced too!). I also have a couple new exercises I wanted to use, which meant restructuring the flow of the days and reworking my slideshow. I work best under pressure, I suppose! And to top things off, I'm a couple hundred emails behind in responding. So please continue to be patient with me if you are awaiting a note - I promise I'll get to them asap. But I will have limited computer time the rest of the week. Now it's off to wrap and ship paintings h...

My first obstacle is getting her finished before Wednesday's deadline (I am a professional procrastinator!). My second obstacle is getting her juried into the show (send me good vibes, because it'll all come down to one person's point of view). "Exhausted," 6" x 8", Golden acrylics on an Ampersand gessobord. This painting depicts a small bean bag Madame Alexander doll, and it also reflects my energy level today. This weekend was a loooooong one - The Princess danced at a convention (7 hours of class daily) then opened her dance competition season with a total of 6 dance numbers (5 done within the span of 3 hours, including costume, makeup and hair changes), running into the wee hours of the night (she did fabulously both on and off stage).  Sunday I left the convention early because The Caped Crusader played for the lacrosse tourney league championship, his team's first game since the death of a teammate's mother (which they won while sporting purple bandannas in her memory!). In between and in betwixt I put together this week's journaling lesson, did some volunteer work, and prepped...

IN PROCESS: "Victoria and Camille," 11" x 14", still life painting depicting two generations of dolls (a Corolle vanilla scented baby belonging to my daughter and my childhood Madame Alexander doll), acrylics on museum quality panel, $599. Lots of in process photos are here and inquiries may come to me . Collage artist Laura Locke invited me to co-create in her gorgeous studio . (Thank you, Laura - this is me, waving furiously!) While she worked on a large scale mixed media fabric piece of her two daughters , I spent an hour playing with my dolls. I kept moving them aound, repositioning their bodies, trying different chairs/heights/surfaces, until I was happy with the setup.  Then I walked past from a different angle across the studio and changed my mind entirely!
