Reproductions of this piece and other recently sold Talisman paintings will be available soon. Please watch your email for a direct link. Meanwhile, questions and whatnot may come   to me . Last weekend I encountered an owl, and it was quite profound. It didn't take her long to land on my easel. Or to find a home, for that matter. I should be surprised, though. Owls are deeply magical. Now I'm off to try my hand at a whitetailed fawn, one of several that have been visiting us over the summer months. I want to get her little speckled butt painted before all the spots melt away into the snow. Thanks, as always, for following along on my painting journey, Be well, Fondly, Kim

NEW PAINTING Everything

"Everything," 50" x 50" x 2", acrylics and water solubles on gallery wrapped canvas, sold (thank you and a very warm welcome to my newest collector). Reproductions of this piece and other recently sold Talisman paintings will be available next week. Please watch your email for a direct link. Meanwhile, questions and whatnot may come   to me . "Wolf medicine empowers the teacher within us all to come forth and aid the children of Earth in understanding the Great Mystery and life." Jamie Sams & David Carson in "Medicine Cards." This piece was inspired by my previous wolf painting   "Too Much to Hold." I wondered what that wolf would look like if she had more breathing room about her. So I set out to learn. The angle of their faces and intensity of their gaze is the same, but that's about it. This larger painting took on a life of her own right away - first the inner glow emanating from her heart, then the tree canopy spread

A review of The Talisman Paintings

The painting I feel started this series of work off back in March 2020, this is "Totem." If you click on the image, you'll get redirected to   a video short   outlining the paintings that have come about since she showed up on my easel. So I like to review my body of work periodically. It's a great learning tool. It gives me a chance to revisit the paintings with hindsight and the benefit of new knowledge. I also get to see them collectively as opposed to the individual focus that happens as I'm painting them. A couple weeks ago I made   this video   outlining the progression of The Talisman paintings. I don't know how many works are technically part of the series, but there is a significant number, and not all of them are in this video. It's important to also clarify that this isn't a promotional video for my art - it's a tool to help me analyze what I did ok on and the areas where I could have done better (or at least differently). It will also

Birds have been showing up in my dreams lately, mass numbers of them in my yard (and not the migratory kind), and I'm finding feathers everywhere. With my kids off adulting on their own, we are hearing the phrase "empty nest" quite a bit, along with "flew the coop" and all sorts of other flying references to them out in the world. So I suppose it was just a matter of time before birds ended up on my easel. For those of you who follow me on FB, too, do you recognize the pink dahlia that I've been tracking this last month? My first one grown from scratch (although she was gifted to me, and I didn't literally do that starting par

NEW PAINTING Meant to Be

I accept paypal, personal checks, and payment plans, and collectors always receive a 10% discount. Inquiries may come  to me . I know what intentions I poured into this painting, but I'm curious to hear what sort of read or narrative you get from her. How does she make you feel? what other things move you in that way? do you have a personal story that relates to what's happening in this piece? Thank you in advance for sharing your thoughts with me. (Also, my online students are getting a time lapse video with voice over addressing this piece's process. You can join us for as little as $15/month, which also unlocks similar content for my last year's worth of painting and studio activity. Learn more   here .) And thanks, as always, for following along on my painting journey, Be wel

NEW PAINTING Red

"Red," 24x36x1-1/2, acrylics on cradled panel, image painted around the side, $1899 plus s&h to the first asking nicely. I accept paypal, personal checks, and payment plans, and collectors always receive a 10% discount. Inquiries may come  to me . I am particularly fascinated with a fox's ability to dissolve into their surroundings. I imagine that is much how Native Americans moved through the woods, too, silently, without being noticed. It seems to me that the less intrusive one is to their surroundings in nature, the more deeply one can be connected. And that's what this painting is about - how, through the centuries of time on earth, we are all bits of each other. We are literally connected via the most basic shared building blocks - the elements on this earth - simply recycled and reborn in other cells. I also really dig the idea that my spirit guide (the fox) is made up of sky, earth and fire. That makes her even more powerful, her ability to shift form as

NEW PAINTING Too Much to Hold

"Too Much to Hold," 24x20x1-1/2, acrylics on cradled panel, image painted around the side, $999 plus s&h to the first asking nicely. I accept paypal, personal checks, and payment plans, and collectors always receive a 10% discount. Please note that there will be a delay in shipping this painting, as I wish to spend some quality time with her, learning and developing new works. Inquiries may come  to me .   When you dream all night about finishing a remarkable painting, and then get to wake up and actually do so, while still in your jammies. Yup, perfect day. This is “Too Much to Hold.” I borrowed her title from  Sarah Morris ’ song   Between Here and There . I love to listen to music while I paint - it helps me fall into my flow and keeps me physically moving (I paint standing up). My playlist has over 1000 songs, randomly shuffled, and every so often the lyrics or melody to something connects deeply with what’s on my easel, like this song did. The song is utterly brillia

NEW PAINTING Dahlia

"Dahlia," 24x30, acrylics on panel, thickly textured paint, $899 plus s&h to the first asking nicely. I accept paypal, personal checks, and payment plans, and collectors always receive a 10% discount. Inquiries may come  to me . I have been tending a handful of new (to me) dahlia plants, gifted by a dear friend in the spring. She is a dahlia master, with rows upon rows of dinnerplate sized blooms. I have always deeply admired these plants, and have been so excited to have a couple of my own to study and work from. Buds have set, and one is a delightful gold green with hints of pink. I have no idea what this particular plant will look like when open, but I used that color combo, which thrilled me, as the basis for this painting. I was also thinking about trees and their root systems, how stems and foliage are sort of the inverse of that. These sorts of thoughts are the seeds of paintings to come, allowing my mind to make connections and ask all sorts of "what if'
