Hope came home yesterday after hanging out at  The Anton Art Center  for a few months, where she received an honorable mention in an exquisite and deeply talented Artists’ Choice exhibition (thank you again to esteemed juror  Dr. Anita Bates ). On the drive back to the studio, I toyed with the idea of keeping Hope for myself. But that seemed a bit unfair - I don’t know who out there may need a good dose of Hope. So I decided that I’ll leave it up to The Powers That Be to determine where Hope ends up. And what do you know - she had a new home within a few hours (thank you again to my newest collector!)   Germinate, acrylic on panel, 24"x24", $1200 plus s&h   to the first asking nicely . Questions can always come  to me. Germinate did not begin as an abstraction. She began as a fox, then sky bloomed from her face, with an explosion of peonies growing from the lower edge into a ascension of petals off the top edge. Then a little water's edge landscape crept in too. In the process of trying to meld them all together I got overwhelmed. I asked the fox, "fox, what if you run off for for a bit while I resolve the organic elements?" Fox thought that was a good idea. When she did return, she decided hiding was far more fun. There's all sorts of things buried inside this painting if you take the time to look....... a child, butterflies, rabbits, a mermaid...... I won't tell you all of them, but leave a few for discovery! Mum, a new selfie in celebration of Mother's Day 16" x 20", acrylics on panel, part of my ongoing series of self portraits. This one is not for sale - I'm going to will it to a kid with specific directions to hang above their eye level, so that I am always looking down at them, just like when they were all shorter than I...... Meanwhile, inquiries may come  to me . Please and thank you. Self portraits are a remarkable exercise. I've been practicing them at least monthly for nearly 2 years. They are an insightful exploration of mood, energy and outlook. Sometimes they aren't terribly flattering, but I'm not painting them to pretend I'm a supermodel. I'm painting them to become a better caretaker of myself.

"Peony Diptych," (2) 12" square gallery stretched canvases that overall create a 12" x 24" image.  Done in acrylics and paint pen, featuring one of my favorite flowers, peonies. Available to the  first asking nicely  for $350. I'm planning to study florals a bit more seriously in a series of smaller works. I'm paying greater attention to modeling and composition, among other things. Trying to think about the painting as an abstract object and not as a representation of flowers, if that makes any sense. "Hyacinth," 16" x 20" acrylics on panel, available to the  first asking nicely  for a very affordable $200 (plus $20 s&h). I couldn't resist these bulbs when I grocered this week. They are utterly charming in their little weathered bowl, and they smell so good. Or so I thought, until I moved them into the studio and put the spot light on them. "Poppy," 36" x 48", from the Flores Animalum series of paintings, acrylics on panel, depicting a larger than life sized golden retriever crowned with a halo of bobbing poppies. I started this painting last spring, then got too scared to finish it (yes, that happens to me too! far more often than I'd like to admit). It wasn't until yesterday morning, when I was actively avoiding cleaning off my desk, that she made it back onto my easel. And it's been a painting marathon ever since. "Tulips," 10" x 22", acrylics on gallery stretched canvas, depicting one of my grandmother's vases spilling with tulips, $299 to the first one asking nicely. No, that is not a typo - the piece carries a lot of sketch-like properties, so I priced it accordingly - message me if you are interested! SOLD (and thank you so much!!) This piece was the perfect one to complete while waiting for passages in other, larger works to dry.

"Sistering,"** 16" x 22", from "The Dryad Series," acrylics on gallery stretched canvas, depicting two magical spirits in a tangle of ranunculus. Inquiries may come  to me . Last week, while The Princess and I tackled all but one thing on her Spring Break stay-cation bucket list (and not for lack of trying!), the boys took on Las Vegas. And I got quite a bit of painting done, but did give myself a vacation from blogging and sending out newsletters.  And this is one of the pieces that resulted. Lots of wonder happening here, with layers of marks, drips of paint, and other interesting brushwork. I adore this piece - and the floodgate of imagery it has inspired.
