It's a weird thing to explain, how I bring a painting to life. An idea shows up and I invite her to the easel. Sometimes her visit is quick. Other times she can overstay her welcome - I think these are the ideas that show up before I have the skills to bring do them justice. Such was the case with Night - this painting literally took years to finish. I would carry her to a certain point, then realize I was lost, so she'd get set aside until I knew what was to come next.  That knowing is a strange thing - it's the sort of knowing one has in a dream state. When she could no longer care for herself, she moved into the basement of my grandmother's home. One of my favorite parts of visiting my grandmother was the added 2-for-1 part - I got double the love within each visit. Every day I write a list of 10 things I want to remember in my journal.
