FROM THE ARCHIVES Blurring the Lines

"Blurring the Lines," 11"x14", acrylics on museum quality panel, $499 plus s&h. I accept Paypal, venmo, personal checks and payment plans. Purchase inquiries can always come   to me . In honor of what should be Kentucky Derby Week, I will share some of my original equine work created over the years. This is something I've done since 2007 - celebrating one of the biggest weeks in horseracing (at least here in the states) by highlighting horses in art. It was extra special doing so in 2015, the year I was the official artist of The Kentucky Derby. Here's my blog post from April 27, 2015 , the day before I left for Louisville. But back to today's painting - this one has been in my personal collection for a couple years. I'm ready to let her go, though, to someone who's at least as equally in love with her as I am. (I can't keep all my favorites, because I simply do not have the space! and I've got something on my easel right no...

Your Destiny Will Keep You Warm (Medicine Hat #10)

Above, full painting, below a detail. "Your Destiny Will Keep You Warm (Medicine Hat #10)," 22" x 30", acrylics on panel, $999 plus s&h to the first one asking nicely. Inquire directly   to me   - I take personal checks, paypal, venmo and will arrange payment plans. SOLD (TY!) Seems like the paint has been flying in these parts, due to no lack of inspiration as I spend time reflecting upon and painting these magical horses. Each Medicine Hat piece has gotten stronger than the one prior - or maybe it's that collectively they are gathering more power. There's so much magic in these pieces, I can't stand it. I am feeling the need for some sort of restoration, but also fearing to take a break and potentially interrupt the flow. So perhaps it is convenient that tomorrow I have to leave the studio and go out into The Real World to deliver several paintings across town, then attend a gallery opening and cheer on good friends who's work w...

Rearranging the Lines

"Rearranging the Lines," 11" x 14", acrylics on museum quality panel, $499 plus s&h to the first one asking nicely. Inquiries can come to   me . Nobody wants to be predictable, nor do they want to be limited by others' notions of what they can or should be. So move those lines - they aren't barriers, just starting points - and reach for your goals. Thanks, as always, for following along with my artwork. Warmly, Kim

Curls

"Curls," 24" x 30", acrylics on panel, featuring a palomino Thoroughbred with a festive and somewhat tropically colored forelock of ribbon. $899 and the first asking nicely gets her! As always, inquiries may come to me . Wouldn't this (or any of my Beribboned paintings ) make for an incredible focal point in a nursery or child's room? Thanks, as always, for following my art, Warmly, Kim ksantini@turtledovedesigns.com

High Noon, Toogie

"High Noon Toogie," 12" square, commissioned equine portrait depicting a palomino, acrylic on board.  SOLD. Proceeds from this painting will benefit Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kenab Utah. And just a warning - get yourself a snack before pulling up the Best Friends site - you'll get lost in all the stories & great information.   Notice the new header for today's email? I've decided to periodically share the inventory numbers for the Dog-a-Day paintings. Toogie's is painting #67 for 2009 and #641 from the Painting a Dog a Day project. Hard to believe I'm closing in on painting #700 - sounds like the making for a party....   This piece was a challenge in values - I didn't want the darks too heavy or devoid of color, and I didn't want my lights washed out and flat. I do not use black in my palette - I mix my darks with a three way combo of the primarys, which gives me a richly colored variety of shadows.   When tinting, ...

Palominos

FROM TOP: "Looking Back (Palomino)" and "Palomino Profile," both 4" x 5", acrylic palomino equine paintings in acrylic on canvasboard, $114 each. Because these pieces look exquisite together and I would love to see them stay that way, I'll bundle the purchase of both into $215. Inquiries to ksantini@turtledovedesigns.com . BOTH SOLD. I am thrilled with these paintings, as they summarize, even in their petite and intimate sizes, all that I've learned this last year. EDGES: See how there are soft and hard edges? I've learned that even though my photo references contain all hard edges (well, ideally they do!), that I can manipulate the crispness of an edge to produce a variety of form and shape, and build a sense of depth inside the picture plane. VALUE: Because I often work from photos, it's been a challenge for me to separate the sharp contrast of a photo reference from the reality of how my eye would see the horse. In reality the stronge...
