Paintings With Soul

After last night’s lunar eclipse it seemed fitting to share a lunaresque (yes I’m making up words, but it totally fits!) painting. This is Possibilities (available for purchase), a 24” acrylic painting done with love and pure imagination on a cradled round panel. I make art to talk about happenings. Last fall I was busy painting things like this one above (yes, she’s circular just like the moon), Selenite Moons , Moonstruck , Orbiting , Pleiades and others in response to that eclipse and a subsequent string of super moons. In my mind, an artist’s job, my job, is to share my journey by making art reflecting what’s it’s like to be alive today. The things that pique my interest and tug at my heart. Sometimes the happenings are as basic as the first good snowfall of the season , sometimes they are a bit more complex like concern for children caught up in warzones . This one started out fierce, then got puppy dog softer, then became staunch and wise. Which actully mirrored a situation in my personal life. Coincidence? I think not - Wolf showed me how to compassionately move through life's twists and turns. And ultimately ask about my path, whether it be direct (like old growth trunks), wandering (like the edge of sky) or orbiting (like many moons). which best suits where I want to go and how I wish to get there?   Earth and Moon view her on my website Earth and Moon, original acrylic on flat panel, 24”x36”, private collection (thank you).   It seems fitting to close 2024 out with a painting that is about vastness. In a year that challenged me as a voracious creative and an often bumbling human, for my muse to then deliver a painting to my easel that reminds me how small I am is comforting. This piece is also about constants, those things we don’t even notice anymore because they always are. It’s a reminder to refocus on my breath and the everyday miracles that surround me.
