NEW WORKS ON PAPER Limestone and Lapis

Limestone and Lapis, acrylic and other materials on artists' paper, 18x24 (image is a little smaller to accommodate a white margin around the page), $400 each plus s&h   to the first asking nicely . Make both of them yours for $700 (purchase via my website and I'll refund the $100 difference). Questions can always come   to me. my paintings contain layers of marks  There's something about stacking them up, the marks, a little lopsided or haphazardly, so that all sorts of fascinating things happen between them. That's how these pieces were made. Over a period of about 6 months I layered paint and line work, scraped back in to the surface, smudged and smeared things together. I also leaned in to one of my new favorite mark making processes - something I call primal scribbling. And yup, it's just as it sounds! You grip your tool with a ferocity and scribble scribble scribble, madly, and hope that the paper doesn't tear. Here is  the link  to view these t...

NEW PAINTING Waxing

Waxing, acrylic on flat panel, 24x24, $1200 plus s&h   to the first asking nicely . Questions can always come   to me. Equal parts fox medicine and lunar magic   this painting is a quiet reminder of one's inner strength. Speaking of lunar magic, it's the first new moon of the astrological year tonight, which is the perfect time to set intentions. Take some time to think about where you are heading and whisper this to the moon before tucking in this evening. Perhaps your intentions include acquiring meaningful original art?! Here is  the link  to view Waxing larger, peek at her in a room, or purchase. If you are looking for something with a different sort of spirit animal magic, check out the  options on my website , sized 8x8 and larger with prices starting at $300. Also, a head's up that tomorrow I'm hosting another Watching Paint Dry episode. These are 30 minute live q&a sessions held via zoom, open to the general public. This time I'll wal...

NEW DRAWING Family

Family, image 33"x45", paper a bit larger, mixed media on paper, $800 plus s&h to   the first asking nicely . Will ship rolled. I can also include a magnetic scroll style hanging system, but recommend ultimately this piece be set behind glass for preservation. And of course, questions can always come   to me. I started 2 of these large scale drawings last year.    They were pinned to my studio wall, and every week or so I'd sit with them for a bit and add marks. The accumulation of layers over time created quite a historied feel to the surface that I quite like. My original intent was to include them in the Fox Medicine show last October, but they had other plans, clearly. One is still in process, but this one, Family, is ready to head out into the world. This is a wonderfully scaled, nuanced and soothing piece. She will be amazing in someone's home or office. Here is the link to purchase . Thanks so much for following along with - and supporting - my art ...

NEW PAINTING Shrine

the Talisman paintings from Fox Medicine are now available to purchase via   my website Shrine jus completely owns my heart.  There's the sky blue silhouetting ochre gingko leaves, the two feathers (one painted on each the left and right edges of the painting, and the fact that she stands solidly despite the fault line bisecting her rib cage and shoulders. This piece inspires me to be a better human. Shrine is 24" x 30"x 1-1/2", acrylics on a cradled panel. She will arrive wired and ready to hand in your home or work space. She is $1800 plus s&h to the first one asking nicely. Returning collectors, please reach out to me for your 10% off discount code. Shrine, along with her sister paintings, is listed on   my website under Paintings, Fox Medicine . The second image in this post identifies her sisters -  Goldie (upper left), Irish (round middle) with Portal below her, Vixen (upper right), Atlas (lower left), Leelanau (bottom middle) and Shrine (lower right...

NEW PAINTING Leelaneau

"Leelaneau," 24"x24"x1-1/2", acrylic on handmade cradled panel, when available, she will be $1600 plus s&h.   Reach out to me   for further details. I've been on an art retreat (actually I still AM on an art retreat) trying new things with my process. It's been surprising, the sorts of things I'm learning. This one came about from a rainy morning spent with a mug of steaming tea, studying the drip lines and raindrops gathering in the foliage around the porch of our rental house. I decided to start with the leaves, then thought a wolf was showing up. But she decided to be a fox, and who am I to argue? Yesterday I tried my hand at plein air painting on the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes coastline. Tonite I am upping the game and trying moonlit plein air painting. Tomorrow is another round panel of a fox and trees.... or maybe she'll be sand dunes. Saturday I'll try to finish this week's work before driving back home on Sunday. And come nex...

NEW PAINTING Goldie

"Goldie," 24"x36"x1-1/2", acrylic on cradled panel, $2000 plus s&h when available, but first she is (hopefully) heading out to a juried exhibition, where her eligibility mandates she is for sale.   Reach out to me  or sign up for   my First DIbs club   if you are interested in Goldie and I can keep you in the loop. she got the thumbs up from my critique group today which means I came home, photographed her for this newsletter, and placed her on the varnishing table. Then tomorrow I will do the entry form for the juried exhibition I'd like to see her be a part of. This piece both gives me goosebumps and elicits one deep, cleansing breath. Like I mentioned, she is headed to out (hopefully to a juried event in September and then, if she remains unsold, to my solo show in October). She has to be for sale at both of those installations. Should she come home to me from those outings, she will be offered to my collectors club (the First Dibbers) be...

NEW PAINTING Vixen

"Vixen," 30"x40"x1-1/2", acrylic on panel, $2400 plus s&h when available, but first she is heading out into the world for a bit (ie exhibitions).   Reach out to me   if you are interested in Vixen and I can add you to my First Dibs Collector's Club. First Dibbers receive priority purchasing when it comes to my new work. this piece started out as a demo for my online students and then she took on a life of her own. Sometimes demos go sideways and wonky. It's the nature of having to articulate what one is doing while one is doing. That makes it more difficult (for me at least) to hit the flow state and really let loose, and I believe that it's here in this magical state where the roots of some of my best paintings lay. So I was super excited to see all the promise Vixen still held   after two hours of painting and talking . And the following painting session, when she grew stronger, I created   another lesson video of her,   just to ...

NEW PAINTING Sapling

"Sapling," 16"x20", acrylic on panel, from the "Forest for the Trees" series. This piece, along with some sister pieces will be available in the very near future. Please send any questions  my way  and thanks so much for your interest in my artwork. I work intuitively, which means that I have no idea or plan as to how a piece will turn out. I just show up and follow my muse. It's often a game of cat and mouse - particularly when I think I know where we are headed. I am almost always wrong. I have learned to be quiet and patient. Usually that does the trick. There's also many, many layers of paint in these pieces. Those layers are often paintings or designs that could be considered finished works on their own accord. When I sit with them, they bloom with promise but also keep their secrets until I pick my brush up again and trust that things will work out. With Sapling, my muse first revealed the adult version of this tree. You can see her boughs ...

NEW PAINTING Heartpine

"Heartpine," 15"x30"x1-1/2", acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas, from the "Forest for the Trees" series. She carries   a yellow feather painted on the right side edge , a symbol of hope, which matches the yellow heart glow on the face of the canvas. She is $1500 plus s&h. This piece, along with some sister fox-trees, will be available in the near future. However, if you simply cannot wait to make her yours (and I completely get it!),  let me know . We will work something out. And thanks so much for your interest in my artwork.     (Pictured above, Sacred and Crabapple, shared with you earlier this week) I mentioned earlier that I have many of these "Forest for the Trees" pieces going on at the moment. They take deliberate, slow marks, with plenty of drying time in between. This is a little contrary to my usual pace, which is much like an excited toddlers "more, more, more!" yet I am enjoying the quieter process immensely. The ...

NEW PAINTING Crabapple

"Crabapple," 16"x20", acrylic on panel, part of a new series I am considering calling "Forest for the Trees." Please  reach out   with any questions and thanks so much for your interest in my artwork. Continuing to step into the open door that   "Sacred,"   yesterday's painting opened, this is "Crabapple." There is something fascinating to me here - it's a tree, yes, but it's also a fox. It's both things simultaneously. As I work on these paintings (there's a mess of them coming to life in the studio), I shift the balance back and forth to allow one, then the other, to shine the brightest. It's a delightful game to play, walking this line between the dichotomy (is this the right word?) of the subject matter. How far can I push the tree as subject before the fox dissolves, and vice versa.  There is a calm serenity to these paintings, too, that I greatly need. I find I have retreated from much of the noise in the...
