IN PROCESS a GIANT project

My studio floor this afternoon, along with 4 in process paintings. The three smaller ones are 12" x 18", the yellowish, larger one is 18" x 24". But these aren't the giant project the subject line of this email refers to.

The Giant Project is that the studio is moving in December. And I am so very, very thrilled about it - this new space is bigger than the one I had a couple years back.  Which means that once COVID is through, I will be able to teach again from the comfort of my own space.

It also means that I no longer have to contain myself to 120 square feet each day, like I have for the better part of the last 18 years. I do love my current studio and it will be emotional to leave it - I built my business here, started Painting a Dog a Day here, painted my Kentucky Derby official artwork in here, worked at the easel while my kids grew up, literally, around me. But it's time for a new space. I outgrew this years ago, and my basement storage is stretched to the limits, too. It's been a struggle lately, finding space to work on the larger paper pieces, filming the various lessons and sessions, I am looking forth to building a new magic space and ushering in all the wonderful imagery that will show up.

However, not only am I moving the studio, but the entire household!

This wasn't something planned, although we had been quietly looking for a couple years. We had a checklist of the things we needed in a home in order to age gracefully, and were being pretty picky, because we were so very happy right here. And then, a couple weeks ago, we walked through a house, and it was absolutely perfect. Well, not totally perfect, because the walls are all white, but in every other regard, it was wonderfully suited for this next phase of our lives. We made an offer, 10 days later our home of 18 years was sold, and this all started to become real. And a lovely distraction from the crumbling world, too, I've gotta say.

So........ with the looming move, I have time for 2 or 3 new portrait commissions prior to the holidays. If you are thinking about gifting artwork, please reach out to me asap. I'd like to have everything done prior to Thanksgiving if possible.

And for that matter, if you have been eyeballing a completed painting and it's still in my possession, make me an offer. Wrapping and sending pieces off to new homes is far more exciting than wrapping and simply relocating them.

Ok. I'm off for a celebratory glass of wine with My Better Half. We've got a lot to be grateful for, and a lot of lists to start making!! My next fav thing to painting is making lists!! Happy Friday to you all!

Thanks, as always, for following along on my art journey,
Warmly, Kim

PS For those of you in my area, don't worry - we aren't moving far. We will still be in Lake Orion, and I am really looking forth to hosting an open studio event when it is safe to do so.

Picture Book "A Dog Named Blue" - now available!!

The cover of "A Dog Named Blue," now available from Blurb publishers. When I first painted Amelia I never imagined that she would be re-christened "Blue" and inspire a book. In her defense, Amelia had a number of other partners in crime - animals who's portraits seemed to fall into a specific color category and prompt color-centric names. In typical ADD fashion, my brain started spinning 100mph. What if I turned those muses' paintings into a picture book for animal loving kids? I shared my idea with three friends in the industry, and they eagerly offered their expertise. I am truly indebted to them. Illustrator and author Matt Faulkner and children's book author and literacy expert Kristen Remenar edited an early version of the draft. They suggested key plot/conceptual changes that made it oodles better. Designer Elizabeth St. Hilaire Nelson worked her magic, pairing the images with perfectly color...

Tabby Kit

"Tabby Kit," 5" x 7", acrylics on a museum quality panel, depicting a tiny little orange striped guy from Morgue File . This painting can be yours for $289, which includes s&h inside the US. And in case you didn't see it, a little doodle of him is also available for sale here . Inquires may come directly to me .  Although it certainly doesn't FEEL like spring here (snow and ice and wind chills, brr!), I can tell that spring is coming. The mercury is rising a wee bit each day and the days are getting longer and brighter. Over the weekend we drove with the moonroof open just to feel the sun's meager and oh-so-very-welcome warmth (although the heat in the car was cranked, too, in the interest of full disclosure!). I wanted to work with spring-like colors today, and this little guy was still on my mind , so I grabbed a small panel and got to work. Of course, I also have Poppy to finish and some changes to make to another po...

Dear Copyright Thieves

Dear Copyright Thieves,   Just because it's on the internet doesn't mean it's free for the taking. So let's just stop pretending the internet is a free-for-all.   Don't play the card that you didn't know - that's insulting. And don't also tell me that you meant to follow up and get permission but never got a chance to. That's insulting too. And by the way, don't you have a copyright protection notice on your own site?   And don't even try and point the finger at a third party who commissioned you to make a copy of my painting - again, an insult - you and I both know the difference between a reference photo and a painting.   And don't tell me that I asked for it because I share my artwork on the internet. I share my paintings and ideas and the stories behind them so as to encourage others to pursue  their own passions . I do not share so that those lacking integrity and morals can copy and market the images as their own...
