Emerald has been magical from the start. A painting overtop a painting overtop a painting overtop a painting - each rendition taking my breath away, but also becoming too precious to take any risks with. So the panel sat there, patiently waiting for me to jump back in, over the period of several years. I love working overtop another piece - the two paintings, the previous incarnation and the one emerging, have a conversation with each other. Bits are salvaged, ideas spark, something entirely new is born. With Emerald it is that glowing chest. That wasn't part of my original concept, but once I saw the fox, began pulling her forward, and realized that the lightest part of the previous composition would fall right on her heart, I was done.
