Many many thanks to Starkweather Art Center for hosting the show and to everyone who took time this last month to visit. I have been moved and so inspired by your support. Thank you. This weekend I was very busy behind the scenes, adding the pieces to my website and making them available for purchase. But first, can we give Persimmon a moment? this stunning and stoic bear deserves a celebration of her own. Inspired by autumnal walks in the woods and, in particular, a grove of lusciously colored bright red maple trees, Persimmon is readying for a nap with memories of past springtimes to keep her warm. You can make Persimmon your own   here . Now as to the foxes milling about her feet (perhaps that explains her p...

NEW PAINTING Crabgrass

"Crabgrass," 18"x24", acrylic on panel, $1000 plus s&h. You may purchase her directly   here,   or   reach out to me   for further details. how do the winks that inspire the subject matter of my paintings happen?  Last weekend I shared  a drawing from my childhood  of a number of animals, including a porcupine. Sure enough, a little prickly guy showed up in my newsfeed along with a mention in a book I was reading. So you know what that means, right? Three winks and she got invited straightaway to the easel. First I filled her body cavity up with orange and pink roses (initially I wanted to use my orange and pink dahlias currently in bloom, but the petal shapes were too similar to the quills, so it didn't work out design-wise. Roses, a flower I've always thought of as my own, particularly since being the official artist of the 2015 Kentucky Derby, were a great alternative). The crabgrass aggressively growing adjacent to the dah...

NEW PAINTING Land and Sea

"Land and Sea," 24"x36", acrylic on panel, $1300 plus s&h. You may purchase her directly   here,   or   reach out to me   for further details. I don't consider myself a landscape painter but I have to say that my (outdoor) surroundings have really been impacting the work I make. I think it started in late 2022 when, after our move, I fell deeply in love with our new property. I began walking it each day, looking for subtle changes. And the views from each window are masterfully framed - they always provide a glimpse of something stunning for those days when the weather was a bit too much (this is Michigan after all). During our 5 days in Maine last week, I soaked up the sky and ocean. The vistas, rocky beaches, dense old growth woods, ponds, winding roads, windswept trails. These things are trickling into the paintings I'm working on, even if, like Land and Sea, those paintings were started before the trip. Art isn't created in a vacuum. I am rec...
