"An Infectious Grin (Jake)," 6" square, commissioned Labradoodle dog portrait, private collection (thank you!!). The sale of Jake's portrait will benefit my local shelter, the Oakland Pet Center. Inquiries, including how you may commission a Dog-a-Day portrait of your own and support animal welfare at the same time, may always come to me. Jake has had a crummy summer, ultimately being diagnosed with a herniated disc and undergoing successful surgery last month. It was important to everyone that we paint him full of smiles and energy, just like he will be in no time at all. Meanwhile, I need to extend a sincere thank you to those who have recently purchased my art, and welcome you to the family of Dog a Day collectors. As a collector you are qualified to receive 10% off future purchases, whether they be from my portfolio or commissioned works. Wanna be a collector? hint hint.... You are always welcome to browse the original paintings and limited edition giclees that are available through my Etsy shop. I'm also adding images to Imagekind, where you can order poster quality reproductions and notecards. (The notecards would make excellent holiday cards, IMO) And please let me know what your thoughts are - what you would like to see or read about through the Dog-a-Days. I'm always interested in your thoughts. Thanks, as always, for looking at - and sharing - my artwork with your friends and family. Kim |
The cover of "A Dog Named Blue," now available from Blurb publishers. When I first painted Amelia I never imagined that she would be re-christened "Blue" and inspire a book. In her defense, Amelia had a number of other partners in crime - animals who's portraits seemed to fall into a specific color category and prompt color-centric names. In typical ADD fashion, my brain started spinning 100mph. What if I turned those muses' paintings into a picture book for animal loving kids? I shared my idea with three friends in the industry, and they eagerly offered their expertise. I am truly indebted to them. Illustrator and author Matt Faulkner and children's book author and literacy expert Kristen Remenar edited an early version of the draft. They suggested key plot/conceptual changes that made it oodles better. Designer Elizabeth St. Hilaire Nelson worked her magic, pairing the images with perfectly color
