Alice

PLEASE NOTE: Last night I experienced technical difficulties that precluded my sharing jpgs of Alice's paintings. I did, however, post an update to the newsgroup both last night and then again this morning once I had images to share. This blog posting is an edited combination of what went to the Dog a Day Newsgroup subscribers. Thanks so much!! - Kim

FROM THE TOP: "Dear Alice," 6" square and "Storytime," 6" x 8", both portraits of a mixed breed sweetheart, done in acrylic on canvasboard. My client wanted a square painting and I wanted the Curious George books (I have far too many memories of reading George to my boy), so I painted a compromise. Ok, not a compromise at all, technically. But everyone is happy, and isn't that all that matters when the lights go down?

So she'll choose one painting, and the other will go up to the first taker - you'de better let me know if you're interested!! Inquiries (including booking your own pet portrait, from miniature size [4" x 4"] to larger than life) may always come to me.

Alice shares her mis-matched eyes with one of her boys. It was a characteristic that initially attracted my clients, and her dear temperment sealed the bid. In Alice's honor and on behalf of all the rescued dogs out there, I will make a donation to my shelter as each of these paintings sell.

And now I'm back to the easel to get cracking on today's painting - my Virtual pARTy entry. Yes, it's that time again - if any Dog a Day readers and artists are interested in joining up, the info and pARTy image is on the website.

FROM LAST NITE: How I wanted to share the two paintings I finished this evening with you- but my scanner is acting all squirrely, saying it needs several hours to scan one painting and frankly I am just too whippped to argue with it tonight.

I had also hoped today to be able to add a link to my websites representing a fully researched Haitian animal rescue group - but it will happen tomorrow! Today I am a victim of poor time-management (and time wasted trying to placate an unhappy computer).

Well, really, it wasn't so much poor time-management as being guilty of over scheduling. After all, I did take down a solo exhibition an hour across town, re-allocate the 20+ paintings to galleries/storage, complete a photo shoot (you will LOVE this newest kitty), hit the opthamologist, get my son to his guitar lesson, teach a Creative Journalling class, and still manage to complete two paintings.

All with the kids at home and at each other's throats.

So the day wasn't a total wash.

The pressure's on for tomorrow - we shall see what I can accomplish with only the sounds of Zoe Keating's cello to egg me on. That is, assuming the computer will compy and allow me to run itunes...... I may be working to the soundtrack of the dog's snoring otherwise.

Meanwhile, you are invited to peek at my newly revamped website (completed prior to the computer's "vacation"). Feel free to share it with a friend. Or just bookmark and keep it to yourself (I won't tell!!).

And watch for a newsletter, hopefully later this week.

Thanks, as always, for looking at - and sharing - my artwork with your friends and family.

Picture Book "A Dog Named Blue" - now available!!

The cover of "A Dog Named Blue," now available from Blurb publishers. When I first painted Amelia I never imagined that she would be re-christened "Blue" and inspire a book. In her defense, Amelia had a number of other partners in crime - animals who's portraits seemed to fall into a specific color category and prompt color-centric names. In typical ADD fashion, my brain started spinning 100mph. What if I turned those muses' paintings into a picture book for animal loving kids? I shared my idea with three friends in the industry, and they eagerly offered their expertise. I am truly indebted to them. Illustrator and author Matt Faulkner and children's book author and literacy expert Kristen Remenar edited an early version of the draft. They suggested key plot/conceptual changes that made it oodles better. Designer Elizabeth St. Hilaire Nelson worked her magic, pairing the images with perfectly color...

Tabby Kit

"Tabby Kit," 5" x 7", acrylics on a museum quality panel, depicting a tiny little orange striped guy from Morgue File . This painting can be yours for $289, which includes s&h inside the US. And in case you didn't see it, a little doodle of him is also available for sale here . Inquires may come directly to me .  Although it certainly doesn't FEEL like spring here (snow and ice and wind chills, brr!), I can tell that spring is coming. The mercury is rising a wee bit each day and the days are getting longer and brighter. Over the weekend we drove with the moonroof open just to feel the sun's meager and oh-so-very-welcome warmth (although the heat in the car was cranked, too, in the interest of full disclosure!). I wanted to work with spring-like colors today, and this little guy was still on my mind , so I grabbed a small panel and got to work. Of course, I also have Poppy to finish and some changes to make to another po...

Dear Copyright Thieves

Dear Copyright Thieves,   Just because it's on the internet doesn't mean it's free for the taking. So let's just stop pretending the internet is a free-for-all.   Don't play the card that you didn't know - that's insulting. And don't also tell me that you meant to follow up and get permission but never got a chance to. That's insulting too. And by the way, don't you have a copyright protection notice on your own site?   And don't even try and point the finger at a third party who commissioned you to make a copy of my painting - again, an insult - you and I both know the difference between a reference photo and a painting.   And don't tell me that I asked for it because I share my artwork on the internet. I share my paintings and ideas and the stories behind them so as to encourage others to pursue  their own passions . I do not share so that those lacking integrity and morals can copy and market the images as their own...
