Welcome to Painting a Dog a Day

Since October 2006 I've been a daily painter, creating a new pet portrait at least 5 times per week. At first the paintings were mostly dogs, but over the years I've allowed a transgression here and there, and expanded my offerings to include a variety of animals and pets. And yes, I accept commissions! Please join the Painting a Dog a Day community - Sign up using the links at the left to receive the dailies via email or follow the blog with a feed. I post additional info, including in-process jpgs and other related information, on the studio Facebook page as well.

The links above will help navigate through workshops, the commission process, and other options.

Thank you
so much for your continued support of my artwork.

Black Lab - Bandit

"Black Lab (Bandit)," 4" x 6", commissioned Labrador Retriever portrait, acrylic on canvasboard, private collection (THANK YOU!). Inquiries (including booking your own pet portrait, from miniature size [4" x 4"] to larger than life) may always come to me.

Bandit joined his family shortly after they had lost another dog. His mom says "Bandit's eyes reflect his soul and I truly believe he is a gift from God that we were meant to have in our lives." He joined a chocolate and yellow lab, making the multi-cultural family complete. Bandit had a health scare several years ago, followed by a long recovery, which brought the family closer.

Bandit's story makes my job that much harder - how do I paint a dog who anchors everyone together? Well, I started with honest eyes, and built it out from there.

Thanks, as always, for looking at - and sharing - my artwork with your friends and family.

  1. Love your painting of Bandit. 4"x6" seems to small. As a fellow pet portrait artist, I seem to need a larger area. Keep up the good work!

  2. Thanks, Carol - oddly, for me too, the littler paintings take longer to complete than the big guys. Something about the restriction!!
