Paintings With Soul

Since October 2006 I've been a daily painter, creating a new pet portrait at least 5 times per week. Over the years I've expanded my offerings to include a variety of animals, pets, race horses, children and other treasured heirlooms. In addition, I accept a limited number of commissions each year.

In 2015 I am honored to be the Kentucky Derby Artist.

You may use the links below right to receive my daily paintings via email or to follow my blog with a feed. I post additional info, including in-process jpgs and other related information, on the studio Facebook page as well.

Meanwhile, thanks
so much for your continued support of my artwork.

Martha's Pink Nose

"Martha's Pink Nose", 6" x 8", portrait of a Yellow Labrador Retriever, done in Golden Open and Heavy Body acrylics on a Raymar panel. Martha's Mom gets first dibs. I'll be happy to take names and numbers - who wants second dibs? email me.

SOLD (thank you!).

Today I've been thinking a lot about copyright and derivative artwork. It started out innocently enough via an artists guild conversation, and it seemed to be on other people's minds too. Both Seth Godin and Katherine Tyrellmentioned different aspects of it in on their blogs today.

Being part of the art continu-um (not sure how to spell it!) and an art historian by training, I have always been aware of how difficult it is to create something fresh and new. I can't help but think that those who cave to this pressure by purposely taking (or consciously making) artwork that isn't purely self directed are short changing themselves. (Copying for educational purposes excluded)

What do you think? I encourage you to read the posts above and share your thoughts.

Thanks in advance for your compassion and support,

"Help Japan"

This week's Daily Paintworks challenge, "Help Japan," is a fundraiser for the survivors of the Japanese earthquake.

Over $13,500 has already been raised by the participating artists!

Visit the event page to browse the artwork. Paintings are being added all week long.

And you can go directly to the pet portrait auction here.

100% of the sale price of each of my paintings will be donated to Save the Children.

Thanks so much.
