Win This Painting

"Shelter Tabby," 5" x 7", acrylics on museum quality panel, depicting a lovely gray tabby (of course, those who have painted with me will know that gray is never really gray - there's lots of color there!). This painting is being given away to support my local shelter - please read below for details.

The Princess and I visited our shelter last week to drop off a donation.

We were saddened to learn that they were at full capacity with cats. And there were so many wonderful kitties there, all ages, colors and sizes, happy to be played with and loved on. There was a crew of regular volunteers grooming and nurturing and letting us know about personalities/etc, and we enjoyed ourselves for over an hour.

Of course we fell in love with a couple residents. It's impossible NOT to. We can't bring any more pets into our household (we are at capacity here too) but we decided we could still help out by sponsoring a couple cats and raising money. Which leads me to my next point.

See the painting above? She's a colorful and content tabby cat, 5" x 7", which is a standard size that will fit into a simple frame (or look quite wonderful tucked into something custom) and bring a sense of calm where ever you might tuck it. She also would be an insanely wonderful gift for that cat lover on your list. She's ready to take up a quiet residence some place special. It might be your home...... it could be your home - read on!

For every $5 donation made to the Oakland Pet Adoption Center using their online portal, I will put your name in for a chance to win this painting. Yup, you read that right - every $5 you donate will get you a chance to win. Donate $5, get a chance. Donate $20, get 4 chances. See where I'm going?

I'm gonna raise the bar, though, and make it even better. For every $50 donation made to the Oakland Pet Adoption Center using their online portal, I will put your name in for a chance to win a custom 5" x 7" pet portrait valued at $399. Donate $50, get a chance at a custom portrait. ($50 donations earn one chance at the custom portrait, so if you are donating $50 but prefer (10)$5 chances for the kitty painting, please send your email receipt with the subject line of $5 OPAC donation).

So it's pretty simple - make a donation online by next Friday at midnight (that's the 20th) using the specified links. VERY IMPORTANT - Forward a copy of your donation receipt to me at ksantini@turtledovedesigns.com with the appropriate subject line - either "$5 OPAC donation" or "$50 OPAC donation." I will acknowledge that I have gotten your email, and my response will include how many chances you have and for which prize. Winners will be announced on Monday the 23rd.

More official rules: By entering, you acknowledge that you are at least 18 years old and you agree to pay any applicable taxes/shipping costs. Unlimited entries per household. Chances of winning entirely dependent upon total number of entries received. Each entry will be acknowledged as detailed above via email sent from ksantini@turtledovedesigns.com. Sponsor is not responsible for lost or undelivered emails. All entries due by midnight EST Friday, November 20th, 2015. Winners announced on Monday, November 23rd, 2015.

If you aren't comfortable supporting my shelter, I do understand. Or if you are unable to make a donation, I get that too. I do encourage you all, though, to reach out to your local shelter and see what they might need. It's easy to make a difference without breaking the bank. Old towels/blankets? toys? collars/leashes? volunteers? Whatever you can spare will make a difference.

Thanks for helping out homeless pets.

And thanks, as always, for following along with my artwork,
Warmly, Kim

Picture Book "A Dog Named Blue" - now available!!

The cover of "A Dog Named Blue," now available from Blurb publishers. When I first painted Amelia I never imagined that she would be re-christened "Blue" and inspire a book. In her defense, Amelia had a number of other partners in crime - animals who's portraits seemed to fall into a specific color category and prompt color-centric names. In typical ADD fashion, my brain started spinning 100mph. What if I turned those muses' paintings into a picture book for animal loving kids? I shared my idea with three friends in the industry, and they eagerly offered their expertise. I am truly indebted to them. Illustrator and author Matt Faulkner and children's book author and literacy expert Kristen Remenar edited an early version of the draft. They suggested key plot/conceptual changes that made it oodles better. Designer Elizabeth St. Hilaire Nelson worked her magic, pairing the images with perfectly color...

Tabby Kit

"Tabby Kit," 5" x 7", acrylics on a museum quality panel, depicting a tiny little orange striped guy from Morgue File . This painting can be yours for $289, which includes s&h inside the US. And in case you didn't see it, a little doodle of him is also available for sale here . Inquires may come directly to me .  Although it certainly doesn't FEEL like spring here (snow and ice and wind chills, brr!), I can tell that spring is coming. The mercury is rising a wee bit each day and the days are getting longer and brighter. Over the weekend we drove with the moonroof open just to feel the sun's meager and oh-so-very-welcome warmth (although the heat in the car was cranked, too, in the interest of full disclosure!). I wanted to work with spring-like colors today, and this little guy was still on my mind , so I grabbed a small panel and got to work. Of course, I also have Poppy to finish and some changes to make to another po...

Dear Copyright Thieves

Dear Copyright Thieves,   Just because it's on the internet doesn't mean it's free for the taking. So let's just stop pretending the internet is a free-for-all.   Don't play the card that you didn't know - that's insulting. And don't also tell me that you meant to follow up and get permission but never got a chance to. That's insulting too. And by the way, don't you have a copyright protection notice on your own site?   And don't even try and point the finger at a third party who commissioned you to make a copy of my painting - again, an insult - you and I both know the difference between a reference photo and a painting.   And don't tell me that I asked for it because I share my artwork on the internet. I share my paintings and ideas and the stories behind them so as to encourage others to pursue  their own passions . I do not share so that those lacking integrity and morals can copy and market the images as their own...
