So after Bloom, I wanted to try a painting that had a greater concentration of darker values. Sort of flip the formula inside out and see what came of things. So I started on a really dark ground. What came of things was that I constantly kept lightening areas of the painting as I worked. My natural inclination is to make things bright and colorful. I didn't realize how much of an effort would be involved in working the opposite way.
I'll continue challenging myself in this regard with the next painting. Wanna get in on how she's going to come together? I
'm doing a live demonstration with my online students this Saturday at 1pm eastern. I'm going to talk about the two artists that have inspired my new venture in building intriguing design, how they build their own studies and reference materials, and then show a little bit about how I'm interpreting that as I put together resources for the next piece. This will happen in the Real Time tier of my Patreon - more info is right here. Perhaps you can pop in and join us!
