I’ve made a living making art for 25 years (yikes! I know I’m dating myself, but this is something worth shouting about). But yet I know nothing.
Seriously.
The more I learn, the more I realize I have literally no clue.
Which is why I absolutely LOVE taking classes.
This week I am working with an intimate group of crazy wonderfuls (I have so many new besties - I am totally with my people here!) led by the brilliant Emily Ball. We each brought our own What Ifs and she’s steering us into the sticky, messy work of mining truths.
Bear and Sky are here with me, of course, and today was both impossible and exhilerating. Impossible because I caught myself in a seething hot lie, thinking I was working outside of my comfort zone and realizing that it was still well within arm’s reach. Exhilerating because when I realized I needed to hopscotch right over that edge into serious risk taking, there was zero bleeding. Much of what I made was really, really bad (if it had veins, it would have been messy), but some of the work carried effortlessly breathtaking passages.
That’s why I’m here. To learn new ways to do the things.
I’m so ready for Day Two, I can’t stand it.
Creativity documents our voices and builds community, something profoundly important right now. How can you help elevate and keep artists’ voices alive? It’s simple:
engage with your favorite artist via social media
share what they are creating with your friends
take a course and hone your own voice
purchase original art or reproductions (see below)
fill their tip jar (let’s be real, it’s all about Treats for Blue, the studio dog)
