Renaissance is a continuation of what I began exploring in Kitsune, the integration of my monochromatic mixed-media drawings (featuring animals arranged totemically) with a full color painted abstract landscape. I have always been intrigued by the collision of separate ideas or things, rearranging the expected relationships in my paintings and building something entirely new. That is what the entire Talisman series has been about, essentially - they are vessel-like animal spirits holding an ecosystem, set inside another landscape, with fragmentation and disruptions to various passages (this is a contemporary art movement called Disrupted Realism - google it and you will find some astonishing art!).
With Renaissance I found a new approach to mining (my) past work as a means to build future pieces. I can’t articulate it yet as it’s still pretty new, but this painting is a breakthrough for me on an aspect I’ve been circling for a bit. You can see in process images here on my instagram.
Thank you so much for your interest in and support of my artwork.
Love you, Kim
