NEW PAINTING Sentinels

"Sentinels," 9" x 12", mixed media on panel. This painting is the first completed piece to come out of the new studio, and she found a home rather quickly. Thank you very much to my new collector. Feel free to   message me   with your own inquiries, and thank you very much. I'm here, in the new studio, and mostly unpacked. There's a couple things to still iron out, like the fuse that is tripped when I blow dry my painting and have the space heater going, but I solved that today by painting in my Comfy. I didn't even have to turn the heater on! It feels fitting that 2020 is closing out a personal chapter for me. I literally have gotten a clean slate with this new space. I spent this morning planning for 2021 - a year where, most likely, travel will still be non-essential for many of us, and public events like group meetings and in person workshops will not be feasible. I'm going to focus on building digital content for my online classroom and begin

STUDIO NEWS December 2020

A recent drawing done in conte and graphite on paper. Studio News, December 2020 Looking back, 2020 was quite a ride. It took me places I didn't want to be and pushed in directions I did not want to go. There was kicking and screaming and tears. And quite a few ugly cries. And then there were insanely beautiful moments, made all the more precious because of their proximity to the darkness. And here I am, in the final throes of an extraordinary year, in a new studio and a new home, with a new body of work I'm readying to share. When the pandemic cancelled my years' plans, I regrouped. Instead of exhibiting, traveling and teaching other artists in person, I turned inward and invested in myself. I spent my year actively studying. I took online classes and worked with Ardith Goodwin, Alyssa Monks, Stanka Kordic, Michael Carson, and Nick Wilton, amongst others. But I would say that, hands down, the hardest and most rewarding artwork, of which the above portrait is just one, wa

Part 1 stays up on FB until the end of the month - after that, it, along with the exclusive Part 2, will be available only in   my online classroom . Speaking of which, at $60/year, a seat in my online classroom is a fantastic gift for the creative soul in your life. We talk about painting, idea generation, studio business, inspiration - anything related to the act of making art is fair game! About once a week I invite online students into my studio via videos and links to other content, each designed for self study at th

GIVING THANKS

Prince Rockefeller, original acrylic and graphite on wooden cradled panel, 6"x8"x1", private collection (THANK YOU!). The owls have proven hugely popular, and I will continue to paint more in the coming weeks. They are 6"x8"x1", acrylic and graphite on cradled wood panels, and $269 plus s&h. And incredibly endearing - even more so in person. If you would like to get on the list for one,  message me directly , Today is Thanksgiving here in the US, and while I realize many of you are reading this from other countries, this is my day to pause and reflect with tremendous gratitude on all that you have given me. Your attention and support - even if you are merely reading and commenting on my content - has enabled me to build a career as an artist. I started my professional journey almost 20 years ago, when I intentionally left a corporate job to focus on raising my kids. Painting during naps resulted in gallery representation a few months later, and then

NEW PAINTING Princess Rockefeller

Princess Rockefeller, original acrylic and graphite on wooden cradled panel, 6"x8"x1", $249 plus s&h to the first asking nicely. I take paypal and personal checks. Please  message me directly  for details. Inspired by real life,   the little owl that traveled 170 miles inside the Rockefeller Christmas tree   showed up on my easel. This is a super fun painting in that it shimmers - it might just be fairy dust needed to properly usher in a new year.. There is only one of these paintins at the moment, but I do think a further investigation of owls is long overdue. Perhaps I'll create more after I finish up holiday commissions. What do you think? ALSO, I've set up prints and reproductions of this Princess and yesterday's Queen's over on FineArtAmerica.   Have at em! Thanks, as always, for following along on my art journey, Warmly, Kim

NEW PAINTINGS Queen Barbra and Queen Tina

AT LEFT, Queen Barbra and AT RIGHT, Queen Tina. Each original painting is acrylics and graphite on wooden cradled panel, 8"x8"x1", wired on the back and ready to hang. The paintings are $279 plus s&h (and yes, I'll combine shipping). I take paypal and personal checks, and also set up payment plans if you are so inclined. Please  message me directly  for details. These might look familiar - they are the only remaining unsold Songbird paintings, a series I did earlier this year. When I was packing up inventory for next month's studio move, these two asked for crowns. Actually, they were pretty demanding about wanting the crowns. So I obliged, but I did ask them to wait their turn for a bit. Thanks, as always, for following along on my art journey, Warmly, Kim

NEW PAINTING Swan Maiden

Working title "Swan Maiden," 18" x 24", acrylic and graphite on paper, $599 plus s&h to the first asking nicely. This piece will ship flat and need to be framed by the buyer. I accept paypal, personal checks and payment plans. Inquiries may always come   to me. I have always loved losing myself in a good story, and now that I'm painting narratives, I am dreaming up plots all day at the easel, and then I unwind and lose myself in even more of them while curled up with a good read at the end of the day, too. With this one, the woman has been through a battle, but she's not surrendering, even though she's still navigating uncertainty. Her familiar, the swan, has her back, and symbolizes transformation, trust, and general bas a$$ery. It's a story that parallels a lot of scenarios in the world at the moment - the US election, BLM, COVID..... the list goes on. I'd love to hear the story this painting tells YOU. Please share! Perhaps because of al

STUDIO NEWS November 2020

The Michigan woods are particularly beautiful this time of year. The tree's have arms stretched to the heavens and toes anchored in deeply soft beds of leaves, pine needles and mosses. I have been enjoying the fresh air and longer hikes with the dogs. Studio News, November 2020 November is always a busy month in the studio, as I finalize holiday plans and ship secreted commissions off to happy collectors. One of the toughest things, for me at least, is holding off on sharing the finished paintings until after the gifting has happened!! This year I'm also juggling our pending household and studio move. While we are only moving a few blocks away, there still is the matter of all the property sale related details along with the physical relocation of our belongings. Painting inventory moved into storage in September, and about 2/3rd of the studio got packed up the last week. Already I miss my books enormously. I also miss the altar I built to my muse and inspirations - I may go

NEW PAINTING Woven

"Woven," 18" x 24", mixed media painting on flat panel, $799 plus s&h to the first asking nicely. I accept paypal, personal checks and payment plans. Inquiries may always come   to me. We are all connected, regardless of our beliefs. It's a tough thing to fathom, with America so radically divisive at the moment.  This is the painting begun on our Election Day, a mere three days ago, yet it feels like a lifetime. The first two active painting sessions were live streamed on Facebook as a way to keep myself occupied and away from the media. There's about 4 hours worth of commentary and instruction, as I recall. The remainder of the process, along with my own final thoughts, which stretched across yesterday and today, will be released as promised to my online students in the coming days. Meanwhile, here is the live streamed demo, in two sessions. https://www.facebook.com/KimberlyKellySantini/videos/399231501108458 https://www.facebook.com/KimberlyKellySant

LIVE PAINTING LESSONS yup, there's two of them!

In process, untitled, 18" x 24", mixed media painting on flat panel. When finished this one will be $799 plus s&h to the first asking nicely. I accept paypal, personal checks and payment plans. Inquiries may always come   to me. Around 3am this morning I came up with the idea of doing a live painting session today, since I've not done one in quite some time, and it seemed like a great idea to keep me from the media today. So I signed in around 10:30 this morning and logged a number of hours, in two sessions, on this piece. There's still a ways to go, and she's kinds ugly at the moment because so many areas are not resolved, but this is a necessary part of any painting's process. And I couldn't work on her any longer because the paint is so thick it's not drying (yes, even my acrylics aren't drying as quickly as I'd like them to!!) and my belly is grumbly, so I'm going to start some dinner. Comfort food for tonite, as we wait for poll

NEW PAINTING Spooked

"Spooked," 16" x 20" x 1/2", mixed media painting on gallery wrapped canvas, $649 plus s&h to the first asking nicely. I accept paypal, personal checks and payment plans. Inquiries may always come   to me. I came into the studio this morning, but had no focus or desire to create. It's been fading as these weeks have toiled on, and I actually went offline for a good part of the weekend, in an effort to minimize doom scrolling and keep my morale up. Usually I can pick up a brush and get something started, even if my heart isn't in it,  but today was different. Nothing showed up. So I busied myself with paperwork and correspondence and other admin tasks and tried to gently call up a visual while getting other things done. I kept seeing black scribbles. Fierce and angry ones. Tightly snarled, dark and fearful. Threatening. I decided to give into them. Just grab a tool and bring them to life. No expectations, just giving myself permission to make marks

NEW PAINTING Embrace the Chaos

"Embrace the Chaos," 16" x 20" x 1/2", acrylics and graphite on gallery wrapped canvas, $649 plus s&h to the first asking nicely. I accept paypal, personal checks and payment plans. Inquiries may always come   to me. My online students got an in depth video this morning of this piece's progress. It was particularly interesting, to me at least, given that this painting has had 4 different incarnations since 2017. ("How long does it take you to make a painting?!") This piece traced my evolution from initially exploring the boundaries of my paint and celebrating childhood magic, up to today's expressive response to the world's climate, with a couple stops in between. Additionally, two previous versions have video content (in the same online classroom mentioned earlier) discussing my intents and ideas, all filmed at the time I was actively working on the painting. If you are curious as to how my work evolves and what I am doing to build

NEW PAINTING Perception

"Perception," 12" x 16", acrylics and mixed media on artboard, $499 plus s&h to the first asking nicely. I accept paypal, personal checks and payment plans. Inquiries may always come   to me. I am sending this one having just come off of a fantastic critique and mentoring session with   Anne Siems.   She really makes me think hard about the what's and why's of my painting process. And I discover all sorts of gems along the way. I highly recommend working with a mentor - a second point of view, particularly when it comes from a third party with a different perspective and admired approach to creating, is invaluable. Thanks, as always, for following along on my art journey, Warmly, Kim

NEW PAINTING Wings

"Wings," 20" x 24", acrylics and graphite on panel. Inquiries may always come   to me. I have just sent this version off to my collector for final approval. This is the part when I start to second guess things and doubt that I even know what I'm doing, even though, 30 minutes earlier, I was on cloud nine over how this painting had turned out.  I really need to duct tape my inner critic's mouth shut. Thanks, as always, for following along on my art journey, Warmly, Kim

NEW PAINTING Sunspot

"Sunspot," 12" x 18", acrylics and mixed media on paper, $499 plus s&h to the first asking nicely. I accept paypal, personal checks and payment plans. Inquiries may always come   to me. I am enjoying these mixed media pieces so much! I also have three commissions ongoing. And a bigger piece for a world-wide project which I can't reveal quite yet. There's lots of paint getting slung about in these parts!  Thanks, as always, for following along on my art journey, Warmly, Kim

NEW PAINTING Fabrication

"Fabrication," 12" x 18", acrylics and mixed media on paper, $499 plus s&h to the first asking nicely. I accept paypal, personal checks and payment plans. Inquiries may always come   to me. I'm currently studying pattern with   Ardith Goodwin   via an online workshop. Between her instruction (which is always perfectly engineered for a fully immersive experience) and fellow students' creations/discussions, my brain is exploding with ideas. I have chosen to study the use of stripes and circles in my art, and in the world. You can bet that you will see lots of them in the future, too. In all sorts of varied glory and iterations. Thanks, as always, for following along on my art journey, Warmly, Kim

STUDIO NEWS October 2020

Detail of an in process mixed media piece. This one is 18" x 24", acrylic, collage and colored pencil on paper. Inquiries welcome - you can always  email me directly.   Studio News, October 2020 It's officially fall, at least here in the Midwest. Colors are at their peak, and I'm thoroughly enjoying lots of walks with the dogs. We are clocking miles in under the canopies of glorious color and enjoying the brisker air. Just as we were settling into a new routine, with The Princess studying college remotely and her puppy Bean ( #yourdailybean ) housebroken for the most part, we had to go and mix things up. We bought a new home a little unexpectedly, which meant readying, listing, and then selling this one pronto. We are now in that limbo phase, with two contracts awaiting closing, and planning a move that will fall between Thanksgiving and the New Year. Crazy times for sure - further complicated by the fact that I work from home, so this means also moving my studio, a
