NEW PAINTING Star

Star, 16"x20", acrylic on panel, $900 plus s&h to the first asking politely. You can make Star your own   right here .   Inquiries are always welcome .  every year I asked Santa for a pony.     I got books, model horses, subscriptions to horse magazines, but never my own horse. It's still not happened (I do realize now that I could make it happen were I willing to give up studio time. Also, sometimes a dream exists in order to help us manifest something else we don't even yet know how to articulate). See that pony who never materialized did contribute to where I am now. Little Kim I drew an entire stable of horses with which she papered her bedroom walls. And I continue to paint horses - each new piece is a sliver of what I imagine owning a real horse would be like. And somehow I've now owned literally hundreds of them. The latest, Star, literally has starlight leaking out of her markings (maybe she's a unicorn in disguise with a horn of lig...

Unicorns are highly skilled at camoflauging themselves. That's why you have to search very hard to find them.

36" x 48", acrylics on panel, featuring a unicorn hidden inside a rose bush. Don't despair if you can see her right away - just breathe slowly and look closely. This piece is $3599. Inquiries may come  to me . Please and thank you. I usually buy my flowers from the week-old bucket. But not today. This painting was totally worth splurging on the most insanely gorgeous blush roses. Added bonus - they will last a bit longer than I am accustomed to.

Sapphire

FINISHED: "Sapphire," 24" x 30", acrylics on panel, available for purchase to the  first asking nicely , $899 (includes s&h inside the US). Thank you so much! The Beribboned pieces are cobbled together from reference photos of the animal and actual ribbon set up as a still life here in the studio. With Sapphire, today I abandoned my elaborate ribboned armature and the reference photo to focus exclusively on the painting, making the various elements work together. I think my next one will be much, much simpler.

"My Little Unicorn," Toy #24, 6" x 6," acrylics on masonite, depicting a My Little Pony figuring. This painting sold about 5 minutes after I shared a snapshot on Facebook this morning. Dont-Give-a-Care Bear

"Dont-Give-A-Care Bear," 16" x 20", mixed media on museum quality panel, a continuation of my  Year of the Spark  studies. At first I thought I could part with this one, but really, I can't. So, next best thing, it is uploaded on  FineArtAmerica . I think Bear is a fine companion to  Under a Van Gogh Sk y, and together they would look fantastic in a playroom. Inquiries can always  come to me , and thank you so much.  I thought the  Year of the Spark  class would renew my passion for painting. I never expected it to push me into entirely new directions. And yet, here I am, creating work I'd not even imagined a few short weeks ago.   These "totem paintings" (so named because the central figure seems imbued with a symbolic presence) were seedlings in the winter, with contours done on clear plastic layered overtop other drawings. A dialogue started between the objects and stories formed that stretched beyond the ...

Under a Van Gogh Sky

"Under a Van Gogh Sky," 16" x 20", mixed media on museum quality panel, an assignment from the online class I'm taking, Year of the Spark . This piece is not for sale (I've gotta keep it!), but I have uploaded it to FineArtAmerica so that if you are in love with it too, you can have a print (or a cell phone case or a tote bag or a duvet cover or a shower curtain or a pillow or a tshirt) . Inquiries can always  come to me , and thank you so much.  Busy Work Every job has it, right? yes, even mine. Today was spent tidying up, doing paperwork for a couple show entries, building a box for another piece heading out to a show, prepping a lesson plan for next week's grownUPs journaling class , and trying to clear off my desk. After some progress was made on the above, I pulled out the homework for Year of the Spark , and rewarded myself with some serious one-on-one unicorn time. The assignment was to work large, starting wi...

Baby Boo Magic, Toy #17

"Baby Boo Magic," Toy #17, 6" x 6," acrylics on masonite. This painting features a pepto bismol pink unicorn with a glittery purple horn. This piece is $75, including shipping inside the US. Purchasing is as simple as  asking . You might say I am obsessed with unicorns. I've painted and drawn quite a few of them this year (you can see/order prints/notecards/cell phone cases/bedding/tote bags featuring them here , here , here (and this one's for sale!) , here , and here ). I've adopted the unicorn as my totem animal, at least for the time being. I relate particularly well to the specific qualities of unicorns - historically, one didn't see unicorns, nor did they come to help, unless one believed and was truly in need.  I have a dear friend who told me (when I was mourning the loss of loved ones) "When you can't believe you'll get through this, I'll believe it for you." It was at that moment sh...
