I made   a time lapse video   of the process, which I rather like watching. Makes the painting process look effortless (it lies!), but it also gives you an idea of how much a piece can change as the marks build up. Thanks for following along on my painting journey. Be well, Fondly, Kim

Thanks for following along on my painting journey. Be well, Fondly, Kim

And while Pussywillow answered a number of questions for me, she also raised many more. So there will be further explorations happening. Speaking of which, I am demoing for my online students at 10am eastern Friday. I'll have multiple cameras positioned so that you can see my palette and easel simultaneously, and will be painting and answering questions as I go along. The session will be recorded for those with previous commitments. You are welcome   to join us  (you want to choose the Real Time Experience, and note that once you sign up, you'll also get

I accept Paypal, personal checks and payment plans.   Please message me.   After closing on the purchase of this house, the sellers invited us over to review all the various systems in place and talk about maintenance. It was a fabulous chance for us to learn about all the little details of this new property and get to know the couple who had lived here. While My Better Half was off learning about the sprinkler systems and the furnace, I got a tour of the property, the plantings and an introduction to the "neighbors." There's the 7 deer who bed down in the tree circle, Lucy the possum who does the walk of shame each morning when she returns home after a wild night on the town, James the groundhog, who has both a summer home and a winter den. Agatha the bat and the Chi

NEW PAINTING Tender

"Tender," 12" x 16", acrylics and graphite on museum quality panel, $499 plus s&h to the first asking nicely. Returning collectors always receive 10% off. I accept Paypal, personal checks and payment plans.   Please message me.   We have a small herd of deer that hang out with us, which is unusual for a neighborhood setting. I think the prior home owners must have fed them (it's not a stretch by any means, given that we have a squirrel who comes to the kitchen window and begs for apple slices and a chipmunk family that are not shy in the least. We have yet to meet James the groundhog and Lucy the possum.). But anyways, when I was out walking this morning, I got to wondering if I might have the honor of actually seeing a fresh baby deer in my own yard this year, and how much fun it would be to sit (at a distance, mind you) and sketch from life. And so this painting is me trying to manifest that idea. You might also recognize the oak leaves - they carried ov

REWORKED PAINTING Out on a Limb

ABOVE, the reworked "Out on a Limb," 24" x 18", acrylics and graphite on panel, $799 plus s&h to the first asking nicely. Original version is below. Returning collectors get 10% off. I accept Paypal, personal checks and payment plans.   Please message me.   I dove into the bare branches concept with so much enthusiasm, making a flurry of work and enjoying the accompanying learning process. The dust is settling now (the inspiration of the fresh snow has been replaced with a desire to settle in and watch my world re-green), and I was able to see this painting in particular with fresh eyes. The colors were glorious (see below for the previous incarnation of the painting), but they swallowed up the rest of the artwork. The chicadees got lost and the saturation of the yellow overwhelmed the nuance of the tangled branches. I tackled this piece with glazes and repainted passages (resulting in the image shown above). Now I feel it's stronger, more cohesive, and ul

NEW PAINTING Crowned

"Crowned," 24" x 30" x 1-1/2" diameter, acrylics and graphite on cradled panel, painted around the sides, $1299 plus s&h to the first asking nicely. Returning collectors always get 10% off. I accept Paypal, personal checks and payment plans.   Please message me.   I am asked all the time where the ideas for my paintings come from. I work intuitively, approaching the painting with a general idea and allowing it to Become. I try to think open endedly, meaning I brainstorm possible directions, then go with the one which feels the truest to the piece that's evolving. There's often a good amount of tripping and back tracking and repainting, and sometimes a piece will just stall, for no reason other than I can't get out of my own way. This painting was influenced by   Untamed , the cheetah piece I did last month. That piece was titled for   Glennon Doyle's book   of the same name (which has been akin to a Bible for me during the pandemic). Untam

NEW PAINTING Crocus

"Crocus," 20" diameter, acrylics and graphite on 1/2" thick birch panel, painted around the sides, $899 plus s&h to the first asking nicely. Returning collectors get 10% off. I accept Paypal, personal checks and payment plans.   Please message me.   I am thrilled by this one, inspired by the first lovely little crocus to smile at me last week. I knew (after   Foxy ) that I wasn't yet done with painting foxes, that they would continue to show up from time to time. And when I got the itch to work in a circular format again, all I could picture was a fox all curled up on herself. A circle in a circle. I love repeating patterns with subtle differences. It's one of those things that makes me feel alive. And I'm buzzing with life today! Thanks for following along on my painting journey. Be well, Fondly, Kim

NEW PAINTING Confidante

"Confidante," 16" x 20", acrylics and graphite on gallery wrapped canvas, painted around the sides, $649 plus s&h to the first asking nicely. Returning collectors get 10% off. I accept Paypal, personal checks and payment plans.   Please message me.   So this one started out as a demonstration painting for   my online students . They got about 5 hours of active painting and Q&A in real time, broken into sessions happening on Friday and yesterday. Even still, that wasn't enough time to finish this painting - I spent a good chunk of today tying up loose ends and finessing the piece. And now I'm editing a shorter video that summarizes the final stages that took place off camera. It's a different way of teaching, for certain. I'm used to leading in person workshop experiences, but in light of covid and the uncertainty of when it will be safe for all to travel (and spend) again, I built   an online space   that provides the same sort of quality i
