While I loved what she was, because of the creative growth I've made the past six months, I was able so envision - and manifest - significant change. The piece is all the stronger for it, too. I am particularly fascinated with a fox's ability to dissolve into their surroundings. I imagine that is much how Native Americans moved through the woods, too, silently, without being noticed. It seems to me that the less intrusive one is to their surroundings in nature, the more deeply one can be connected. And that's what this painting is about - how, through the centuries of time on earth, we are all bits of each other. We are literally connected via the most basic shared building blocks - the elements on this earth - simply recycled and reborn in other cells. Inquiries may come  to me .   When you dream all night about finishing a remarkable painting, and then get to wake up and actually do so, while still in your jammies. Yup, perfect day. This is “Too Much to Hold.” I borrowed her title from  Sarah Morris ’ song   Between Here and There . I love to listen to music while I paint - it helps me fall into my flow and keeps me physically moving (I paint standing up). My playlist has over 1000 songs, randomly shuffled, and every so often the lyrics or melody to something connects deeply with what’s on my easel, like this song did....

I can't decide what my favorite bit of this painting is - the orange flower blooming above her left eye? the way her whiskers twist together into the negative space on the right side of the painting? her wry smile and half shut eyes? that purple flower just past her prime with petals dancing off into oblivion? Raccoons kept popping into my brain for no apparent reason the last week or so, so I decided yesterday afternoon to give one a try. She got drawn in overtop an older painting, which immediately contributed to the blue palette. The feverfew is from my yard, and the peonies are inspired by artificial ones I set up for another painting (now long abandoned/something else, but the flowers were so pretty I left them out. Translation: I'm lazy.) Sure enough, last week she got drawn overtop an unresolved ballerina/dance/siren painting, and ever since then, she has had me beguiled. What is the message she's sending? "Endangered (Snow Leopard)," 24" x 30", acrylics on panel, $699 + s&h to the first asking nicely. Inquiries may come to me . This painting came about due to the challenge this week on DailyPaintworks - to paint a cat. I wanted to keep this piece in the same vein as the polar bear and snowshoe hare from last week, so decided on a big cat. Snow leopards are endangered, which inspired me to take advantage of the drooping tulips from last week's pieces. And I added dried roses, daisies, heather and alyssum to the mix. Perhaps it was today's gray weather that encouraged me to bring more color into this piece, too. Now let's find her a home - feel free to share and pass this one along! "Chippie II," 6-1/4" x 6", a repeat of yesterday's chipmunk, but this time acrylics on copper. Chippie II is $599, which includes shipping and handling to a US address. Message me if you are interested. You need to experience Chippie II in person - sections of the surface are exposed copper, and the metal reflects and absorbs the light as the viewer moves about. Here's a video short of the piece in process. You ARE Seeing Double! And I'm seeing a mess of chipmunks, too. We built a flagstone patio this summer, and it's coaxed them out into the sunshine. I've enjoyed watching their antics from all sorts of different angles inside and out. I think there might be more paintings to come. NOTATION 9-5-15:  "Fox Kit" completed after paint dried (this humidity!). There was some sandpaper involved, a few glazes, more sandpaper, and then the painting got scanned. Any digital image suffers in comparison to the original, but the above image is a fair representation of the color, value and texture in this painting. This piece is nearly finished, but I ran into the challenge of an extended paint drying time due to our hight humidity. This piece has been wet for nearly 4 hours now! I would like to take sandpaper to some areas (so as to soften edges and color transitions), but cannot do that until the paint cures.
