NEW PAINTING Emory Paul

Emory Paul, 18"x24", acrylic on flat panel, $1000 plus s&h to the first asking nicely. Link to purchase is below. Three years ago I began growing dahlias. I had always loved their exhuberence but was rather intimidated by the care involved. A good friend gifted me a handful of her dinner plate varieties and I learned that there really isn't that much extra care - just digging the tubors up in the fall, then replacing them early spring.  Now I have 8 plants of which 3 are currently blooming with wild abandon. Every day I visit the dahlias, give them a little pep talk, and soak up their color. These flowers are so extra, in every possible way. This painting is a summary of sorts as to the dahlia's journey from a little potato (as my mother in law calls them) to the nearly 5 foot tall plant capped with frilly eggplant colored blooms. When I sit on the ground, her faces fill the sky. The varied greens of her and her rose bush neighbors dance companionably like shado

NEW SMALL PAINTING Aster

Aster, 6"x6"x1-1/2", acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas, sides painted so no need to frame. Can sit upright on her own or be hung on the wall. Special giddy post wedding pricing of $250 plus s&h (SOLD, ty so much to my returning collector!). Questions can always come  to me. Last week I painted little florals inspired by the prior weekend's wedding centerpieces  It was all about lingering with the memory of our beautiful backyard garden party celebrating The Man Child and his delightful bride, The Smile Maker. The tent is down, leftovers have all been consumed, the yard got a lovely "wash" via a few great thunderstorms, and I actually caught up on some sleep. Now it's on to the next big event..... which, I haven't yet identified. I'm in a lovely little pocket of time with no pressing deadlines or looming projects. My summer abstraction workshop ended last week and the large commissioned piece I've worked on the last 2 months is shipping

NEW SMALL PAINTING A Pocketful of Posies

Pocketful of Posies, 6"x6"x1-1/2", acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas, sides painted so no need to frame. Can sit upright on her own or be hung on the wall. Special giddy post wedding pricing of $250 plus s&h (SOLD, ty so much to my returning collector!). Questions can always come  to me. I've been painting little florals inspired by this weekend's wedding garden party centerpieces  Today's floral, "Pocketful of Posies." She makes me smile. If I could reach into my pockets and pull something magical like this out...... although I do currently have opal, tourmaline, citrine and garnet in my pocket, so it's sort of the same thing...... And very special thanks to my returning collector who made this one, and all of this week's florals, her own. She plans to hang them together, and that gives me the idea of offering a singular print with all 6 (yes, you have only seen 5 so far) of them together. Once I confirm how she's choosing to hang

NEW SMALL PAINTING Compliment

Compliment, 6"x6"x1-1/2", acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas, sides painted so no need to frame. Can sit upright on her own or be hung on the wall. Special giddy post wedding pricing of $250 plus s&h, but you must   message me your email and mailing address   to be invoiced. Questions can always come  to me. I've been painting little florals inspired by this weekend's wedding garden party centerpieces  Every Sunday, when My Better Half and I were dating, we would brew big mugs of tea and settle in to watch Star Trek The Next Generation together. Our favorite tea was an orange cinnamon blend called Constant Comment. It didn't take long for "Constant Comment" to evolve into "Constant Compliment." And then the game started where, as we sipped our tea, we would speak in over the top British accents while complimenting each other in the most absurd ways. As I painted this piece, I saw a friendship grow between the flowers. They are togethe

NEW SMALL PAINTING Blush

Special giddy post wedding pricing of $250 plus s&h, but you must   message me your email and mailing address   to be invoiced. Questions can always come  to me. I've been painting little florals inspired by this weekend's wedding garden party centerpieces  Your humpday floral is here! Meet Blush. She's full of grays, all swishing with just a hint of color. The paint application is thick on this one. And luscious. I'll need your email and mailing address, please and thank you. Thanks so much for your interest in my artwork, All my best, warmly, Kim

NEW PAINTING Rooted

Rooted, 60"x48"x2", acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas, private collection (thank you very much). Questions can always come  to me. In between abstract paintings THIS gem came to be. Rooted was commissioned by a collector who regretted missing out on   Moss , a similar piece from a couple years back. I don't make copies of my own work - it doesn't seem fair to the original buyer to do so, not does it thrill me at all. I rather enjoy the challenges of creating something new, the call and response that happens when I get deep into dialogue with a painting and don't know where she's taking me. If all the answers were laid out at the start and I knew where I was headed with each piece, I'm not sure I would enjoy the process. This one was great fun though - she was born from Moss but became her own being soon into the process. We put our heads together to identify the things in Moss that my client loved, then designed Rooted to include those while also ec

NEW SMALL PAINTING Glimpse

Glimpse, 6"x6"x1-1/2", acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas, sides painted so no need to frame. Can sit upright on her own or be hung on the wall. Special giddy post wedding pricing of $250 plus s&h, but you must   message me your email and mailing address   to be invoiced. Questions can always come  to me. I've been painting little florals inspired by this weekend's wedding garden party centerpieces  I rearrange the blooms and voila! a new design pops up! I think Glimpse would be gorgeous worked up large scale and then pushed a bit more abstract. I just might have to do that. But meanwhile, she's a little gem with juicy wet-on-wet brush marks full of personality. These florals will not be listed on my website - the only way to grab one is to   message me , and I'll manually send an invoice through paypal. I'll need your email and mailing address, please and thank you. Thanks so much for your interest in my artwork, All my best, warmly, Kim

NEW SMALL PAINTING Dianthus

Dianthus, 6"x6"x1-1/2", acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas, sides painted so no need to frame. Can sit upright on her own or be hung on the wall. Special post wedding pricing (because I am still giddy!) of $250 plus s&h, but you must   message me your email and mailing address   to be invoiced. Questions can always come  to me. There was a wedding reception in our backyard Saturday and it was glorious!  Family and friends gathered to celebrate my oldest and his bride. We laughed, ate incredible food, and danced under the stars. It could not have been more perfect. This morning I brought a vase of flowers down into the studio and decided to linger with some of my favorite moments at the easel. I rarely work this small and rarely offer paintings at this price point. I'll do a couple of them this week, just to share the love. This is your chance to capitalize on my overflowing joy and gratitude from the weekend. These are not listed on my website - the only way to

NEW PAINTING The Source

The Source, 18"x24", acrylic on panel, will be available at the end of August. Questions can always come  to me. The Summer of Abstraction continues.... In June I was scared about NOT painting animals and taking a break from the Talisman paintings to study abstraction. At first I really missed their presence on my easel. But after making about   50 new paintings   (I've been very busy), I don't miss them as much. They are showing up in other ways - hints of them are showing up inside the new work, like the smell of someone's hair after they've moved through a room. I don't think they (the animals) are fully realized - perhaps that's the whole purpose, for them to remain a ragged memory - and I'm honestly not sure what comes next. Here   is a video short sharing some of what I've been creating. Please take a minute to comment and let me know how they make you feel. The paintings rotate on and off my easel. When one feels finished (a flicker of

NEW PAINTINGS Canary and Tiger Lily

At left, Canary, on right, Tiger Lily. Both are original acrylic paintings on gallery wrapped circular canvases with painted sides for a clean, contemporary look. Both at 12" in diameter, signed on the side and back (so you can hang in any orientation, but I rather like them this way). Each $800 plus s&h to the first asking nicely. Why not go a little crazy and buy both for $1300 ($300 plus shipping overage (my website doesn't consolidate ship costs) will be refunded to the purchasing paypal account). Link to purchase is below.   This has been the Summer of Abstraction. I am learning so much - and falling in love all over again with my materials. One, paint is so versatile. I can thin it down and make it all drippy, I can break apart the binder and get a fantastic mottled effect, I can build it up for impasto and tactile brushwork. I can brush it on, paint with my fingers, roll, scrape or use any one of other random tools on hand. It can be opaque marks that swallow up t

STUDIO NEWS

The gallery wall in my studio showing some of the abstract paintings I've made this summer.    I wanted to take a minute to thank you for being part of my community. I so appreciate your support - and yes, reading a newsletter is, actually, support. Thank you for being here! It's been a busy few months in my neck of the woods! The Princess, who was an infant when I started my studio business in 2000, graduated from university in May. All three of my kids are out in the world just crushing the adulting bit. It's a pretty incredible thing to have watched them fledge. We are hosting a backyard garden party celebrating The Man Child's marriage (last fall to the most beautiful soul and absolutely perfect woman for him). I can't tell you how full my heart is to welcome her (and her family!!) and we are so looking forth to celebrating their union from the heart of our home. Meanwhile I have benefitted emotionally, physically and creatively from all the gardening involved
