Blue

"Blue," an 8x10 acrylic painting done on museum quality cradeled birch. Blue is going directly into my own collection, but I can create something similar starring your own pet. Inquiries may come   to me   - thank you! Continuing to think about how gesture impacts brushwork, and how brushwork can both carve and interrupt form. Learning that the essence of an object exists in energy that is not contained by neat and clean edges. Going to tackle a new piece today and see how far I can push these ideas. Thanks, as always, for following along with my art journey, Warmly, Kim

A Not-So-Silent Auction

"Valentine IV," 4" square, acrylics on panel, gorgeously framed and wired, ready to hang.   This painting is being auctioned off RIGHT NOW via Facebook** with half the proceeds going to my favorite shelter, the Oakland Pet Adoption Center. (Actually, I'll tell you a secret - all I want to do is cover my framing costs, and then the rest is going to go to the shelter.)   Place your bids  here . But hurry, because bidding ends at 6pm EST tomorrow, January 16th, 2013.   Thanks for playing along.   And if you want to talk about commissioning something extra special -  email me  and we can talk.     **You DO NOT have to have a Facebook account to view the auction, but you do need to have one in order to place a bid.   I cleaned out my painting storage this morning and found the little treasure above. It seemed serendipitous to unearth a heart shaped...

Authenticity

"Longhorn," 6" x 16", acrylic on museum quality panel, depicting some sort of long horned cattle (I clearly do not know my bovine breds!!), a new subject matter for me! $299 to  the first one asking nicely . It's getting to be a struggle to work at my easel and feel like my dailies are fresh and valuable. I'm nearing completion of 1400 Painting a Dog a Day paintings, and I suspect the walls are closing in on me. It's not that I want to change what I'm doing - I am passionate about my job - but I do want to change what I'm doing. I have been thinking a lot about authenticity. I can ignore the niggling voices in my head and slip more challenging paintings (like the dogs and water pieces or paintings of cows) into my rotation and not say a word. But part of the whole Painting a Dog a Day project has been sharing the struggles (and victories) along the way. And while I have always been honest about many ...
