Hi. It's me again, Anna. My Mom went off to play Santa, or so she says. She's just delivering cheesecakes and wine and cookies and cards and stuff in regular clothes, but she's acting like it's a big deal and she's running about with flying reindeer.

Mom, you drive a minivan. That's what I say.

So I'm in charge of the blog again today. In honor of flying reindeer, I chose a page from my journal where I collaged birds.

There's torn papers and cut edges, and some of the shapes were pieced from lots of little bits of tissue while the one bird was cut with a stencil I made and is just one big piece.

This is a page that I did in one of Mom's Creative Journalling classes. Sometimes I go as her helper, and sometimes I go as a student. I like doing both for different reasons. I like getting to journal because you never know what will show up on your page when you are done.

So that is it for today. I don't know if Mom will let me blog again tomorrow, but I want to come back again some time.

Me? on countertops? Please, don't listen to her. I couldn't be bothered to get on those stinking countertops. I'd much rather unravel the toilet paper roll and drag it through the house - now that's real fun, right monkey?

End of Year Celebrations

We've got a guest blogger again! My 10 year old daughter will be sharing pages from her journal while I'm taking care of the business side of things. Thanks to everyone who wrote Anna after her post yesterday - she feels special indeed after all the positive feedback!

And I'm a dervish here in the background. I'm getting images prepped for reproduction as notecards, adding new paintings to Etsy, working on another book (!!) and lining up fresh new faces for 2011 paintings.

And we made a mess of homemade biscotti yesterday, too. Yum.

I am hoping that your homes are full of love and light and laughter.

PS Kitten Mona Lisa's mastered the aloof "I didn't do it" part, even when caught red handed. Like when she's nonchalantly cleaning herself in the midst of 50 paint brushes scattered all over the studio floor. Maybe she IS innocent. Maybe it's Monkey.

    I just popped in to see what you have been up to and LOVED the post by Anna! She is only 10??? What a talented young lady! She writes better than a TON of bloggers out there! (including ME! lol)

    Wonderful assitant you have Kim. I like Anna's detailed descriptions of how she works and why she likes be both a student and a helper. Tell her not to be too good though or you may end up hiring her and there goes her carefree life as a princess! : )

    Here's Mom, answering after many days.... thank you so much for your support of Annie's writing and art endeavors. Her head has swollen so large that she cannot leave the house, which I suppose is a good thing, because every time she leaves said house, another 5-10 dollars leaves with her..... :) Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!!

Dear Copyright Thieves,   Just because it's on the internet doesn't mean it's free for the taking. So let's just stop pretending the internet is a free-for-all.   Don't play the card that you didn't know - that's insulting. And don't also tell me that you meant to follow up and get permission but never got a chance to. That's insulting too. And by the way, don't you have a copyright protection notice on your own site?   And don't even try and point the finger at a third party who commissioned you to make a copy of my painting - again, an insult - you and I both know the difference between a reference photo and a painting.   And don't tell me that I asked for it because I share my artwork on the internet. I share my paintings and ideas and the stories behind them so as to encourage others to pursue  their own passions . I do not share so that those lacking integrity and morals can copy and market the images as their own...

Golden Open Acrylics

I get all sorts of process oriented questions. Most recently I've been getting asked a lot about my paints and palette, which made me realize what a nice blog topic this would make! I use a Masterson Sta-Wet Premier palette box . This is comprised of a box (think Tupperware) with a sponge liner and a slice of palette paper that work together to keep my paints wet. This setup allows me to work with the same palette for about a full week, having the box open for multiple hours every day. You can see what the palette looks like at the beginning of a new session above - below the exact same palette after this week's work. For the last 25 years I have used Golden brand acrylics, mediums, and varnish. I love the overall quality of these paints and the fact that, when I have a question, their customer service department is made up of artists who actually use the products.
