NEW PAINTING Sky

"Sky," the newest addition to The Talisman paintings, 24"x36"x1-1/2, acrylic and water solubles on a cradled wood panel. Sky will be available to purchase, along with a handful of sister paintings, at a future date. In the meanwhile, inquiries may always come to me.

Inspired by a backyard encounter with a barred owl (she was so very full of magic and glory), then a dream sequence featuring owls (with speech bubbles) and then the random acquisition of a barred owl feather, this painting was steeped in loveliness from the very beginning. This is how all of my Talisman paintings start out - via multiple nods or winks from the universe that are connected in some way. That wink provides the seedling idea which I take to the easel. Then the piece begins to take on a life of her own based on the marks that show up and other connections that form during the time the work is in process.

I have a similar owl piece still in process, this one smaller and more square. That one feels more like fall, at least at this particular stage.

And I'm also working out the design of a much larger canvas that will carry multiple owls.

Reflecting on nature and her voices is the perfect way for me to welcome a fresh new year. I have some sage, my journal, and a quiet evening planned. May your day be sprinkled with joy and peace, and may you awake in the morning refreshed and with hope.

Thanks, as always, for following along on my painting journey,

Be well,
Fondly, Kim

I need to learn more about the Inuit community and their ties to these bears - someone told me that it's rather mystical. I'd like to understand it better myself - and perhaps that will make me a better painter, too, of these delightfully engaging animals. Also, Friday (only two more wakeups!!), at 10am eastern, I will be doing a live painting demo in   my online classroom . I will have multiple cameras set up (both my easel and palette/work surface), giving each student a front row seat from the comfort of their own home, as I share - with real time q&a - how I respond to my world and turn

Brave means, in every uncertain moment, turning inward, feeling for the Knowing, and speaking it out loud. If you are uncomfortable—in deep pain, angry, yearning, confused—you don't have a problem, you have a life." Glennon Doyle Has anyone else been reading - and re-reading - their copy of   Untamed ? (and if you haven't read it yet, who's keeping you from doing so?!) Glennon talks about women as cheetahs regularly, and it's a visual I lean on when I'm feeling a little wobbly. I am a cheetah. Cheetahs don't wobble, they look things directly in the eye.  So when c

It was a fabulous chance for us to learn about all the little details of this new property and get to know the couple who had lived here. While My Better Half was off learning about the sprinkler systems and the furnace, I got a tour of the property, the plantings and an introduction to the "neighbors." There's the 7 deer who bed down in the tree circle, Lucy the possum who does the walk of shame each morning when she returns home after a wild night on the town, James the groundhog, who has both a summer home and a winter den. Agatha the bat and the Chi
