“Love Me (Hayden),” 8” x 8”, lab mix puppy portrait in acrylic on canvasboard, private collection. Another thank you goes out to a Best Friends Magazine reader for commissioning Hayden’s portrait, and sharing her story with me.
Hayden had a rough start to life – at a mere 5 weeks, she was the first of her litter to be thrown out of a moving car onto the highway. Her foster family fell in love (how could anyone resist this face?!), and a year later Hayden leads a happy, healthy and permanent life with them. Still a little timid, she’s not one for car rides, but who can forgive her? Goes to show that with love and understanding, just about anything can be healed.
With respect to commissioning your own dog-a-day portrait, I have a few slots left for the holidays, but essentially am booked through February of 2008.
If you are interested in commissioning a dog-a-day portrait of your own, and want to lock in the current pricing (ranging from $50 to 160), I need your commitment prior to next Tuesday. Due to unprecedented demand and the projects’ popularity, I will be raising the dog-a-day prices as of August 1st. This increase will only impact newly created works – paintings already completed will remain as priced.
I will not be changing my shelter and rescue support policy. If your commission subject hails from one of my partner shelters or rescues (through the end of August 2007 the shelter is Best Friends Animal Sanctuary**) I will continue to donate 20% of the sales back to the shelter/rescue.
I also am looking for 2 muses hailing from Best Friends to round out August’s Shelter & Rescue Week (the week of August 6th). Feel free to spread the word.
Thanks, as always, for looking. And for forwarding these paintings and stories to friends and family.
See you tomorrow,
Kim
**During the first full week of each month, I feature a new group of shelters and rescues. It’s called, strangely enough, Shelter & Rescue Week. Those weeks’ paintings profile animals hailing from the partner shelters/rescues. Proceeds from the sale of those paintings go right back to the host shelters/rescues. Additionally, if you commission a portrait of an animal hailing from a partner shelter/rescue during the month it is featured, 20% of your paintings’ cost is returned to the host shelter/rescue. This policy applies to portraits commissioned during the same month the shelter/rescue is profiled – the commissioned paintings do not necessarily have to be completed during that month.
