This is another girl that has been languishing in the studio for well over a year (pictured below), waiting for me to ante up and finish her. The mullion shadows on the green and purple carpet went out the door, as did the dark wall. I corrected the hyperextended leg and added reflections and bounced color into her body (a trick I didn't know how to do in 2009!). I tend to focus primarily on what I don't yet know, so this exercise was a great confidence builder and a super reminder of how far I've come the last few years. Although it certainly doesn't FEEL like spring here (snow and ice and wind chills, brr!), I can tell that spring is coming. The mercury is rising a wee bit each day and the days are getting longer and brighter. Over the weekend we drove with the moonroof open just to feel the sun's meager and oh-so-very-welcome warmth (although the heat in the car was cranked, too, in the interest of full disclosure!). ReplyDeleteThanks, Martine! This was a painting that required perseverance and flexibility - particularly with the compositional changes at the end. Realizing my initial concept would not work given the subject choice, and making the changes necessary to salvage the piece. :)
